There is some kind of big announcement planned for Tuesday, February 9 at 10 AM by Governor Baker and Mayor Walsh, related to the DOT owned parcels (and air rights) along the south side of Kneeland Street at the edge of Chinatown and the Leather District.

Open meeting at MassDOT District 6 Office, 185 Kneeland Street, 1st floor; 10 AM Tuesday, February 9.

The only thing I can think of that warrants such pomp and circumstance is GE, but those sites make no sense for GE & it's not in the Seaport.

For affordable/workforce housing? That's the only non-GE thing I can think of that would have both the governor and the mayor making a joint announcement.

The BRA just tweeted this (no new info):

I certainly hope their plans consider that they just dropped a lot of money on a renovation of the MassDOT District 6 building. Last year.

^ With a lot of things lining up I could see it being pretty well surrounded... but those elevated lanes aren't getting covered...

I always thought it would be good to move the Nashua St. jail over to parcel 27 there in exchange for developing that prime riverfront property.... If what is constructed on that parcel is going to be surrounded by a wall anyway surrounding it with ramps further matters not at all.

From the 2011 Parcel 25 RFP:

Where's Parcel 28???

There was also an RFP for Parcel 27 last October. This has been discussed as a possible heliport spot.

Actually the parcels run to 31, but they are a development fantasy in many cases.

There was an older numbering of the parcels that divided up the Kneeland Street frontage into more separate numbers, I believe. I thought the four parcels along Kneeland were sequentially numbered, not the 26a, b, c...

NSJ is there to stay for a while.... Pretty recently constructed. And it would be a horrendous waste of public money to build a new jail on a hard-to-access site with assuredly very expensive construction costs... Not to mention smaller footprint (they need space for loading zones, dock for bringing in detainees, it's harder than just stacking all the cell blocks vertically...

Soccer stadium? I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Gotta be big it's a joint presser.

I thought that at first, but the Revs would have been teasing stuff on Twitter all day ("stay tuned for a big announcement tomorrow") and rumors would have broke earlier. You'd have to elevate the whole stadium & parking garage on a massive deck. It would just be silly. Great location though so close to South Station.

It should be noted that 2 Revs representatives did attend Marty's State of the City though.

Lets pray for a reincarnation of this. Right next to South Station, perfect spot for height (within FAA limit FU). I always imagine some glass twins in the 650' range on both sides of the factory being amazing.

Just because I love speculating without any real info: is there any chance that the above height would be put in this spot, and that such a structure would be announced by the Mayor and Governor without prior RFIs or other stuff? The FAA limit ranges on these parcels from 325' to 775', as per the Massport map.

My first thought was that this is finally gonna happen too. Tallest building in boston would merit all this right?

I thought that we had determined that the FAA height limits in that area wouldn't allow for an 800 footer? I might be wrong though, I would love to see something like that here, preferably with at least a semi-decent street level activation though.
