The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

From the pics on this thread, I can tell that the hub is basically the opposite end of the block as TD Garden. But after posting yesterday, I looked North Station up and remembered reading that its under the Garden, just like Penn Station is under Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Kinda, yes. Depends on what "the block" is

In this map you'll see:
(1) The big blocky late 1990s TD Garden and you can tell that the Commuter Rail waiting room is directly under it
(2) The Hub under construction on the footprint of the original Boston Garden (and that Garden had sat atop its own waiting room, all demolished once the new Garden and new NS waiting room came online)
(3) The Green + Orange Subway Superstation (completed 2005) is under (and parallel to) Haverhill St (but had an approach tunnel under Legend's Way) and has since had buildings built on top of it. Completion allowed the Green Line EL above Causeway St to be torn down.

Related/unrelated....are there any surviving pictures of the "Old Garden" 1928 to 1995 Commuter Rail Waiting Room at North Station? I've scoured the Internet over the years trying to find pictures of this space, but haven't had any luck. Having moved to Boston in the mid-2000s, long after the old Garden was torn down, this has sort of become something of a Holy Grail to me. Would anybody have an idea of where a picture like this might exist?

There are some on NE Rail or wikipedia.

The post-2006 North Station concourse is a rare example of transit infrastructure getting better. All the previous waiting rooms look much smaller even with the current retail.

I dimly recall taking the train to Rockport with my grandmother as a small boy and thinking even then that North Station was a dump. I suppose the waiting area might have been wider than today before the wooden trestle burned in the 80s.

This should help. The Hub on Causeway is literally directly in front of the TD Garden/North Station and serves as both of their new main entrances. The red MBTA connection on the east side is new as part of this development. There was previously no direct subway connection to the train station.

Everything is known on "the internet"! :)

I want that back-lit Busch sign for my den. #collegebeer

You know, I am 21st centuryized enough to think that those were TVs showing ads in between boarding info. I guess that black cube in the background was a TV showing track info? I don't see any clicky solari board or anything. The diagram datadyne posted is such a contrast to the "good ol' days" as FitchburgLine pointed out.

I have no memory whatsoever of the previous incarnation of North Station. I have never been a frequent rider of North side trains, but I'm surprised that I can't even evoke a feeling for it, let alone any visuals.

I rode the north side trains into town from lowell a few times as a kid before the new garden was built, but also can't seem to recollect what it looked like (thanks DowntownDave for the images).

I know I've asked before and don't think I saw a response (and, through admittedly quick searching, can't seem to find the answer for myself)...does anyone know if a refresh of the current North Station train waiting area is part of this project? It could really use a refresh...

OK, thank you. I was a very confused. I pretty much assumed that was the case.

They're a little mixed up. Phase I includes the whole base, residential tower, and hotel. All that's opening on November 1 is the entrance to the Garden and access to the subway. The other pieces are phasing in throughout 2019.

That is incorrect. Per the PNF & BPDA approval process, the res tower and hotel actually are Phase II, but the deal was Phases I & II would be built concurrently. Phase III is the office tower.

I still don't believe the grocery store & cinema (which are part of phase I) are ready to open Nov 1. Those will be rolling opens, I imagine.

BPDA Links:
Phase 1: http://www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/the-boston-garden-phase-i
Phase 2: http://www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/the-boston-garden-phase-ii-(the-hub)
Phase 3: http://www.bostonplans.org/projects.../boston-garden-phase-iii-(the-hub-on-causeway)

Phase 1 of the Boston Garden project consists of five main components: (1) the Podium Building, (2) Champions Row, (3) a below grade parking garage, (4) improvements to North Station, and (5) an expansion to the TD Garden.

Phase 2 of the Boston Garden project (a.k.a. The Hub on Causeway) consists of two main components: (1) a residential tower that will contain approx. 440 residential rental units and (2) a hotel building that will contain approx. 269 guest rooms

The revised Phase 3 component of the Boston Garden project (a.k.a. the Hub on Causeway) consists of an approx. 651,500 square foot office tower above the Podium building associated with Phase 1 of the Project.
