Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

But... inducing bike trips is a good thing, as it means people are choosing a bike over personal vehicles or transit, or are choosing a healthy activity (which benefits others as well via lower overall health care costs). This is the complete opposite of induced demand for motor vehicles, which...

Market Central (née Mass + Main) | 415 Mass Av | Cambridge

Re: Market* Central (née Mass + Main) *mostly residential | 415 Mass Av | Cambridge Glad to hear it’s real masonry - this part was supposed to be a rehabbed building, but they determined it had to come down. It’s good they’re putting in a little work to match the original building. And yes...

    Biking in Boston

Sure thing—and thank you for the thoughtful response. It's important for all of us to keep multiple uses and different users in mind.

    Biking in Boston

I'm not saying traffic will get better. In fact, I'm even saying we shouldn't care whether vehicle traffic gets better—it's the wrong metric and has been for the last 60 years. We should care that more people can travel through the road. Because, in fact, this is local intercity transportation...

    Biking in Boston

Bike lanes are vastly more efficient at transporting people in cities than vehicle lanes, so person-throughput (not car-throughput) will be increased by adding bike lanes.

    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

Agreed – Seattle has multiple dense urban neighborhoods all connected reasonably well. It's a joy to pick a neighborhood and explore its nooks and crannies. We're talking about urbanism (daily life at ground level), not skylines. There's a thread on tall buildings here...

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

It loads the full image first and then resizes it to fit the window. I've had multiple instances on multiple devices/connections where pages loaded slowly due to image size, so I fully support maximum image sizes.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

It would be helpful to review the multiple options on the table, which F-Line linked to in this post Key stations, urban rail, and electrification are being discussed as separate yet interrelated concepts.

    How does Boston's urbanism compare?

I think this – a lifestyle where you can do everyday activities without getting in a car – captures something important about urbanism. I'm going to push back on your specific metric, though, because it does not include bus transit. In a city like San Francisco, busses are actually useful...

    Biking in Boston

Cambridge City Council says that any street getting work done must include protected bike facilities if it's on the city's bike plan: Cambridge Day This is being reported as the first law of its kind in the nation. It finally adds teeth to all the endless planning documents that are created but...
