    Covid-19 and Portland's Development Future

construction financing thats in place shouldnt suffer but long term perm debt options may be impacted (completion of projects underway is unlikely to be in jeopardy, but their longr term viability is in question). that said some cities like boston have halted all construction irrespective of...

    Hobson's Landing | Aloft Hotel | 383 Commercial Street | Portland

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the second phase does in fact move forward. People always need a place to live, and even if the sale prices (or rents in the event this transitions to rental) decrease as a function of the market dynamics, my guess is that it's still possible to build...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I think it's great that there is a corporate office user relocating here, but at the same time I can't help but notice that this building does not look ideally situated for reuse in the future should that tenant bail later on. It looks rather suburban. Not complaining, just cautiously...

The reason there are a lot of 6-story buildings relates to the way in which the structures are designed. Above that height there are structural changes in the building that can very often come with a big price ticket. So you'll generally see taller buildings when the amenities pay for it...

Yikes ... I was in Burlington two weekends ago and was surprised at how little progress had been made, because it looked exactly as you described ... so that makes more sense now. That's gonna be a tough one to have blend in. It's half the downtown.

Hope Point Tower (Fane) | 250 Dyer Street | Providence

I have to say, while it looks like Miami meets the Aqua Tower in Chicago, dropped in New England, I really like this idea ... now if only those parking lots nearby could be filled in ...

Eric - look on the Maine Municipal Association's job board (online), which is updated frequently.

You're both right. But on a side note I can't understand how someone thinks it's a good idea to propose this type of housing when there's literally a simultaneously pending PB application to convert the bayside student housing project back to a more traditional apartment layout (moving away...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Maybe I woke up in a cranky mood today so sorry to continue the complaining trend but the bottom half (southside) of the Portland Square proposal looks absolutely hideous...like a cheap garden style apartment complex that's destined to become rundown before it stabilizes ... what are they...

Thanks for the update. "Encouraged to think Art Deco ..." That sentence is more than mildly annoying, because the City's design team colors way outside the lines when it comes to "encouraging" things. It's really code language for do this because we, as unelected admins, want the City to...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

That would be my guess too. In terms of the design I think it's cool, but only for now. It's likely in the future to be seen as some sort of failed attempt to be cool, rather than actually standing the test of time. I envision future owners redoing the facade at least once. But again, for...

    Portland Bayside

Interesting news ... was it someone from the planning department, or someone higher up? Trying to gauge how credible your source might be. Also, did they have any other updates about the project or when they might be taking the land back?? Thanks!

Where are they now? And can you add any more specifics about their plans or who said what? Did it sound like a rumor or potential interest, or like a deal had been inked? Thanks for the info!
