General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I don’t think there is any relief in sight for weekend Orange Line frequencies — I think only some increases in weekday service are planned. My experience is that the 20 minutes-ish headways on Sundays is pretty average. Can’t we do a little better?

    Lowell Infill and Small Developments

I think you have to look at Lowell firmly through the lens of a Gateway City. It has a significant low income and socially vulnerable population and always will. It is outside the inner Boston metro area. It will never be Cambridge or Portland, ME, for example. But in the context of Gateway...

    Lexington Small Developments

Happened to drive by this the other day on Bedford Road in Lexington. Though it’s not far from 128, it is definitely the largest-scale building around. Slated to open in the fall, this “purpose-built life science building” will be 310k square-feet over six stories with 750 (!) parking spaces...

    Red Line Extension to Mattapan

I think anyone who’s used the original ‘Silver Lines’ has a right to be heavily suspect of yet another Silver Line extension. I lived off Washington in the South End for a while. It had a bus line the MBTA markets as a rapid transit line — it is no such thing. The bus lanes mostly function as...

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

I realize the barriers, but it would definitely be a shame to lose all of these buildings. There’s the foundations for an awesome adaptive reuse project. Cool renovation of a power plant down in Savannah that opened a couple years back below. The hotel is stunning. You can’t recreate this stuff...
