What to do with Bowdoin Station?

As of 2023, all Red-Blue connector initiatives seem to be intent on bypassing, and closing Bowdoin station. I've always really liked this station, for some reason, even though it's poorly designed and hard to get into. Assuming the Red-Blue connector is completed sometime in the next 50-100...

Open Space | Turnpike Parcel 21 | Chinatown

I'm not against some of this space being used for parks, but given the housing crisis and increasing lack of developable land in the downtown area, I think that a lot of space should be used for buildings. A mix of buildings and open space would be terrific, but I don't think we need another...

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Although the current hotel is unbelievably wide, so it's possible that they build the 500-room hotel at half the width and it ends up being taller?

    General Boston Discussion

FYI Google Earth updated their imagery again. Not as many interesting developments from last time, but you can see Cambridge, Assembly and the Seaport filling out as well as the new towers being finished up downtown. The most impressive thing is probably how you can now get an aerial view of...

Gateway Innovation Center | 200 McGrath Highway | Somerville

I agree that this could be an oppurtunity to do something really cool. When you consider the location (close to Union and Inman Squares, plus GLX) it's inviting to make this intersection more than an uncomfortable hurdle between East Somerville and Prospect Hill. Install some art/park...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

I believe DZ was referring to the old Chamber of Commerce Building of 1923 which was replaced by the pregnant building, and Fiske Building of 1889 which was defaced by several midcentury "renovations" and demolished to make way for 75 State:

Supertall "Flagpole of Freedom" in Maine

The owner of a wreath company wants to build a 1400-foot flagpole-shaped building with an observation deck on top and a monument with the name of every veteran ever in Maine: https://www.flagpoleoffreedom.com/...

    General Boston Discussion

In case anyone was wondering, Google Earth just updated its imagery for Boston, including new Lechmere Station, the Red Bridge and the new State St tower.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

It looks like it would have been woefully easy to install fare gates here. The current (albeit temporary) validation system is atrocious. I wonder if the city can extract station improvement money from any future developers in the immediate area.

    Green Line Type 10 Procurement

I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but what's the chance that the new GL cars could be incorporated into 3 or 4 car trains in the near future? I know that they stopped them few years back to due "reliability" issues- could the new trains solve those problems/

Glass reminds me of the Lever House in NYC.

MXD Residential Tower | 121 Broadway | Kendall Square

Can we please pray to God this isn't fucked up and turned into another 250' blob? I'm actually amazed someone is planning to build something like this, it looks like it belongs in a city!

New Red and Orange Line Cars

How many of these things are in service now on the OL? I rode on a new train the other day, and passed 2 others going in the opposite direction, so presumably at least 3 trains worth

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

Just out of curiosity, what kinds of boats traverse the dam frequently? I can't imagine any commercial vessels making it that far up the river and I don't know of any regularly-scheduled pleasure or sightseeing boats that run on the Mystic.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

A perfect world would see high level, fair-controlled platforms with full, built out stations covering the center bus lanes, but this is clearly impossible without a massive overhaul of the MBTA's fleet.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Is there any chance of this going the extra step from what we have at Columbus Avenue and becoming "gold standard" brt, like what was proposed for 28x? It would be amazing to have built-out prepayment stations, although it seems unlikely given the present proposal.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

In the first photo, what is the squat, staggered building sitting in the vacant expanse of land in between the North Station RR tracks and the Green Line El?

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

How high are the curb "platforms" on these stops? They appear to be a little higher than usual, and if they provide for level boarding with the busses, that would be amazing- and another step towards true BRT.
