šŸ”¹ What's Happening With Project X?

I was excited about it when I lived in the south end, I bought a place with a rooftop in Southie and the tall building here would almost certainly block my view of the Pru and maybe 4 seasons, so I'm less excited about it than I used to be

1. South Station Tower >800 reduced, then increased to 690' FAA height limit. There's much optimism this project will get underway later this year.

Is this a definite? This project will get underway later this year? 4 months left.

1. It looks like it's going 677'.

2. If it was a definite it would have already been built. The tower is a no-brainer and the rest of the complex should be even bigger, being right on top of the city's busiest train station. It's a joke that it has taken this long and I predict that joke to continue into next year.

Monday -- odurandina posed the following

20~25 unbuilt highrises.... plus a few mid-rises that would have
been great additions to Boston

failĀ·ure
/Ėˆfālyər/
noun
1. lack of success.
"an economic policy that is doomed to failure"
synonyms lack of success, nonsuccess, non-fulfillment, abortion, miscarriage, defeat, frustration, collapse, foundering, misfiring, coming to nothing, falling through;

GE headquarters main tower/ Seaport, cancelled.

I've a couple of issues with some of the list -- but a major issue with including the GE HQ on the list

The GE HQ has not really been cancelled -- it has just evolved with several independent threads {e.g. GE's evolution and the search for Kendall 2.0]:
Specifically:
  1. GE has nearly completed the rehab / rework of the old NECCO buildings and will occupy them as its Innovation Point HQ Complex -- very soon
  2. Nearby joint project by Mega Developers -- Anchor Line Partners and Alexandria Real Estate Equities -- 210K SF lab building at 99 A St.
  3. Mega Developer --- Alexandria Real Estate Equities partnered with National Development on the $252M acquisition of Fort Point land originally slated to be the second phase of GEā€™s world headquarters [aka the Tower with the GE Logo to be seen from Mars]
  4. Another Mega Developer --- Related Beal has bought 3X the original GE site acreage next door -- a 6.5-acre, $218M deal
  5. Another Mega Developer -- Tishman Speyer partnering with Bellco Capital to launch a life science arm, Breakthrough Properties, with a 250K SF project at 105 West First St.
Anchor Line Partners and Alexandria Real Estate Equities first proposed their 210K SF lab building at 99 A St. in March. Alexandria then partnered with National Development in early May on the $252M acquisition of Fort Point land originally slated to be the second phase of GEā€™s world headquarters. Days later, Related Beal closed on a 6.5-acre, $218M deal next door. Tishman Speyer then threw its hat into the ring when it confirmed in July plans to partner with Bellco Capital and launch a life science arm, Breakthrough Properties, with a 250K SF project at 105 West First St.

Result -- in the near future:
Look for a small scale version of Kendall Sq to arise in the slice of land bounded roughly by Summer St. & Dorchester Ave. and the Fort Point Chanel and A St. [might be called the A St Corridor] near the Broadway T stop

Anyone when all this is gonna happen at assembly?

^ I see a bunch of plywood covered storefronts at ground level, when do they open?

What is the new "big metal shed" being built on the Cambridge side of the North Station approach tracks? (Sightly farther out than the skate park).
Apparently a single story with a sloped roof, its seemsthe right size and fenestration (a few high windows) to be a rink or indoor rec of some sort.

It's the new DCR Maintenance facility. I've been posting photos ine the East Cambridge thread.

Did i miss the BCDC? Been meaning to show up for one of them--to personally thank (them) for all of our stalled, failed, delayed, stale & DEAD projects, & the endlessly slashed/VE'd garbage from the past several years..... TO THANK THEM FOR 1 BROMFIELD and 1000 Boylston St (DEAD), for sending mixed messages to the development community, for all the failures, and delays for developers to get financing, for endlessly siding with nimby's, & pushing a far too Brahmin-friendly building agenda everywhere..... for helping to CHILL the air for future development at our hard-to-do sites..... & contributing massively to gentrification, income inequality, and BROKETOWN USA (at City Hall) that ALL continues to spiral out of control for this City........
Also been meaning to ask them--if (this) was the goal all along.

Segways and waterfalls? Yeah, this is a fever dream.
Nice rendering though. Of course they already tried a fountain that they couldn't maintain for whatever reason....Fountains in Boston are generally the kiss of death unless private $$ and/or designated funding is available...I don't trust the city to keep it going.

I've been meaning to go to one of these as well. If you're really going some Tuesday let me know. I'll show up.

Theres nowhere to put these and nothing is moving yet, but a little while ago they released renders of what ground level could look like without the garage. This is a MASSIVE improvement. The city has to get on this, the garage is in the center of downtown/the greenway and this is the absolute perfect spot for a portal to the ocean. This should be a top 5 priority...

Last week I sent a Facebook message to the Harbor Garage Project, and they replied: "We are still hard at work in the planning stages. Stay connected with us here and on Twitter @chiofaroco and our website www.harborgarageproject.com."

Do you guys remember my renders from 3 years ago?
A leaner? Yeah. You knew it 3 years agaaww.

Love the white-translucent aquarium. Finally some cutting-edge design here. /s

But seriously, something needs to be done about it. Everyone I know shakes their head at how terrible the aquarium looks in recent years.

WHATEVER it takes, the garage has to go. Figure out the tower later. Having to keep the garage while the tower is figured out is ridiculous. Screw the harbor tower residents, too bad, this is bigger than them.

Anyways it would be badass if they demo the garage, wharf, and aquarium and build a brand new world class aquarium.

Also
Tremont crossing and blackstone market need to get going. These are 2 hugely transformational parcels.
