I don’t agree with a lot of riflemans nonsense, but let’s stop with the liberal nazism, ok?

I was 100% a fan of good time (NOT good timeS, as it was called), I hate that it’s gone, and I hate the new overly cleaned up Boston this city has become. Fine. MOST - certainly not all, but MOST people on this board fit a very clear demographic - young or closely allied with youth culture, and despite spouting opinions about how everyone ought to live, including families, it’s screamingly obvious that most posters don’t have kids. Now, sure there’s a poster or two with kids who loves holding onto all those liberal urban values we all share... and who drags the family onto the T, and would bring their kids to good times if it still existed. Hey - if I kids, I’d definitely let take em to good times. But that’s me. My opinion and my values. Good times was disgusting and seedy, and if you can’t see why some people wouldn’t want to ever go there, let alone bring kids there, pull your head out of your ass and grow the fuck up. Not everyone wants to live in a studio, take the train and post as nauseam about their cramped but cool and oh so authentic urban lives. I may not be in that category myself, but I don’t hate on people that are and certainly don’t scream superiority bullshit because of my pseudo-enlightened stance of forcing everyone to conform to my viewpoints. Perhaps others on this forum could mind their own business a little more as well. You don’t know where rifleman is from or his situation, but you love to sit there on your Apple computer with your liberal arts degree and tell him how much better you are than him. Gimme a break, people.

so... it's not clear (nor should it be/need it be -- which i agree with, btw) what rifleman's personal deal is and things shouldn't be assumed about him or his background (again, i agree with that), yet you've got a laser-focused understanding of the the people who take issue with some of his comments and you have a full understanding of their backgrounds and personalities? incongruous and hypocritical much? i don't know if your self-satisfied late-night rant was directed at me, backgwailo, others, or just humans in general, but you need a refresher course in logic and critical thinking, kid. i'd love to have an apple laptop, i haven't taken the T in ages (not by design; it just doesn't go to where i work etc.), and i don't think even the most imaginative would consider my place to be some cramped/cool studio apartment. i thought the comments about good times were shitty and class-ist (and apparently i wasn't alone), so i said so. try again, mr. sanctimonious.

back on topic, i fully plan to check out this new super-fantastic-gigantic bowling alley joint ASAP. you can never have too many bowling alleys and, while i appreciate that the fancy pizza place in davis kept most of the lanes, it's no sacco's and with lanes n games/turnpike bowl-a-drome now gone, the area needs more bowling options.

He's presenting you with a point of view that doesn't exactly fit the Liberal narrative. It's allowed under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution.

I have friends who are liberals and friends who are conservatives.

We go to the German club sometimes and actually talk politics without running to a safe space or freaking out. This is good with me. As a social libertarian i believe in allowing liberals to exist without cutting off their heads.

i even agree with a bunch of things they say. Like some of their ideas to improve things for people struggling near the poverty line.

But i'm not with them about the Commonwealth being a 1 party state. crazy, i know.

Everything that's wrong with our society can be summed up by our obsession with prejudging and categorizing people into specific bins.

ON TOPIC: a recreational facility that meets-in-the-middle and draws in different types of people is a wonderful idea that actually might help heal some of this.

Rant was indeed late night, but sober. Spelling errors due to furiously typing on my phone. In any case, I stand by what I said, although I am sorry for blanketing you with an inaccurate demographic characterization, that is nonetheless an accurate one in Boston. However, what is was not was sanctimonious. The sanctimony is what gets tiresome on here, when people feel entitled to shit all over those with whom they disagree. Rifleman is one of those people. Who gives a fuck if he said something about class? Let him have it. He goes off the rails all the time. And specific people on here just get shit on because they are known to not conform to the prevailing viewpoint (ie, conservative), and while those critics may not necessarily be the demographic of my “laser focused” description, there are often plenty of overlaps. ArchBoston is composed mostly of urban enthusiasts (myself included), and like all partisan politics these days, to dare to advocate for any type of living that smacks of antiurbanism is to open oneself up to attack. I highly doubt that rifleman would have been attacked had he not been well known already on this site for views that are clearly against the grain in this regard. That is clearly indicated by bakgwailo’s comment prior to yours. Was it really what he said, or was it what he said in context of what he has said before, which apparently gives permission to bash all one wants (and indeed, as people do, on many other threads). You may have felt something and spoken up, and do did I. Perhaps verbosely and excessively so, but without question there is a power dynamic on this site, that gives permission to trash some and protect others. And I don’t like seeing people trashed if they don’t really deserve it.

I was over in Assembly on Saturday, and it's really shaping up nicely. (And the new Orange Line test train was out next to the station for testing!) The whole area was bustling with families, couples, singles, etc. The Big Apple Circus on the not-yet-developed parcels in the middle was a really smart move IMO. I walked over to Draw Seven Park to see the casino construction across the river. It REALLY is close. With a pedestrian bridge over the Mystic, as has been designed but not funded for construction, I could easily see people taking the T to Assembly and walking over. It also needs a station exit on the park side, but you can tell from the station building that it was designed to have that added on easily. The Trader Joe's there is really nice, but the surface parking lots by the strip mall portion were a total shitshow. I think people tend to want to use the lots rather than the garages even though the garages are free for the first 3 hours (and the lots have a 3 hour limit.) I took the T, so thankfully I didn't have to deal with any of that.

Eh, the concrete is easy enough to remove. It's not necessarily an indicator of something that is to be permanent. The transformer might be temporary while the site across the street is developed. A transformer, even a temporary one, still needs a concrete pad.

The pad for a transformer is typically a precast slab provided by the utility company, so you're right on that. Its directly in front of the door, so I'm hoping it's not permanent.

The garages are kind of a shit show themselves. I avoid them at all costs even though it is free for 3 hours. A couple problems with them.

1. The placement of the ramp for the garage near AMC is probably in one of the worst places possible. There is a lot of foot traffic because of the nearby stores, and a large portion of people leaving Assembly cross the ramp entrance/exit to either get to the garage stairs/elevator or surface parking lots. Traffic backs up all the time because of waiting for pedestrians. If the ramp was to the west of the garage stairs it would have be noticeably better. Even better would have the ramp on the south side of the building near where Fuji is. A lot less foot traffic.

2. The new credit card machines to enter the building is slow because people are not familiar with it. People often do not have their cards ready and it can backup quickly. Hopefully that will change over time.

3. The vacant space board is all the way up the ramp. You need to commit to entering before you know if there are any spaces. Yes, the tenants will put out lot full sign when full, but it is annoying nonetheless.
4. The elevator is painfully slow.
