There's a lot to be said for urban grit. The nice, new sanitized Boston is great, but it lacks that film-noir ambience it had back then.

Reality check:

Looks cool in a photograph.........Was crappy to actually experience.

Just as film-noir was a pleasurable experience for the audience, horrendous for the characters in it.

^ Indeed. Beats the hell out of the glassy shed at Government Center.

I'd take a dram of that Dewars, and I don't even like blended whisky.

Yes and no.... the glass at govt center is utilitarian (at least in my view) as it actually let's light down into green line platform outbound which is really nice

Yup. The new Gov't Center head house is certainly utilitarian. Yay.

It serves that function quite well. The fact that the renovation did nothing (at least in my experience) to better ventilate the space from the heat generated by the A/C units on trolleys and Blue Line trains is an inexcusable failure; the fullness of the project represents poor value for money, but it sure is cleaner and lighter than the brick bunker it replaced.

Why not serve both functions: sunlight entry and aesthetics? I could see a headhouse similar to the one in old Adams Square pictured above, but with a glass roof on all three roofs, and without the clocks. To me that would be much better than the glass freight car design at GC.

These photos are amazing.

Thanks ALL!

btw i have some kickass aerials coming soon.
