Another building adding more to the downtown streetwall. I had come across this a few times, thinking it was an older render of Alta Union House, but its a separate building.

54 Union st

“A new six-story, mixed-use building at the corner of Union Avenue and Proctor Street, creating a prominent landmark across the street from the Memorial Building“

“With modern architectural features, it would help define an important gateway into downtown, Theodorakos said, signaling resurgence in Framingham's central business district. It would replace an existing one-story commercial building at the intersection.”

“"Replacing this on that corner and making this the focal point as people come from the north side of Framingham down Union Ave into the downtown, this is going to make a huge statement," Theodorakos told the board last week. "It's going to show the downtown is changing."”

“Framingham has received an outstanding planning award by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association for its strategy to create transit-oriented development in its downtown.”

“The city's strategic downtown transit-oriented development started in 2009. In October 2015, the Special Town Meeting voted to support zoning changes to Framingham’s central business district with a goal to make downtown Framingham an attractive, vibrant, diverse center that would become a hub of economic activity for the MetroWest region.”

“FRAMINGHAM _ Smart Growth America recently named Framingham’s Alta Union House at 75 Concord Street its Project of the Year Award.

This honor, which was given at the organization’s LOCUS New England Leadership Summit, recognizes both the residential developer, Wood Partners, and the project as an innovative and sustainable Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).

The mixed-use project, which will bring 196 new units of housing to Downtown Framingham, includes environmentally sustainable elements and suburban-type amenities, including a pool and courtyards, in an urban space. As importantly, Alta Union House is significant because it was the first to move in a long-dormant real estate market that is currently undergoing growth and revitalization.“

^^ I always wonder what's on the upper floors of these old, downtown buildings... would be interesting to live in one, like in Natick, Wellesley, or anywhere where there are old, 3 story buildings in towns where almost everyone lives in detached homes.

Framingham: Six-story apartment building planned for Irving Street

“FRAMINGHAM — A local convenience store owner is moving into the residential development market, proposing a six-story apartment building with 54 units on former MCI-Framingham property on Irving Street.

Vinod Patel, owner of three convenience stores on the Southside, purchased 1.4 acres of land across from the prison after it was put up for auction by the state in November 2016....”

Looks ugly as hell, should be cheap, build!

Wow I don’t think you could design a more hideous building. Like wtf.

Is this from The Onion website? A flat roof would take a lot of the stink out of this.

It does look like a hotel you'd find in middle America.

Who puts a giant-ass attic on a double-digit unit apartment complex???
If built as shown in the picture, I imagine it'd be a big safety hazard.

Sloped metal roof, 6 story building. Sounds like sheets of snow/ice are going to slide right off and develop some nice momentum on their way down. I don't think I'd want to be on that sidewalk or have my car parked in that corner parking space.

On the other hand, the all-weather indoor swimming pool that must be going up there in such absurdly large space would make me want to live there in a heartbeat.

It is a pool, right???
