Quest Diagnostics. I always wondered what they were doing in there. I remember walking by there one Thursday night at about 11 on sometime in the 90s while my way to ManRay and seeing people working away as if it was the most normal thing to do at that time of night. The art never creeped me out. The mystery did.

Oh they do a standard array of medical lab tests, blood work, drug tests. Some of their services have a 24-hr turn around (e.g., like drug testing for new employee hires). They do both the service side of things, as well as diagnostic development. But my guess is the people there in the middle of the night were simply a late shift working the quick-turn test results.

I just always thought the art was a bit creepy (e.g., the stone-like expressions on the fake stained glass peoples' faces). Plus I could never really understand what the collection of images was supposed to be about.

Small change to this - they've concluded that they can't save a (mostly lost already) historic building on the property, so they've proposed to build an identical one.

Seems like a good solution, and it's much better on the alley than the existing structure. Several new windows/pedestrian-oriented storefronts.

That article is not a negative one. I found it to be pretty unbiased.

It is a changing neighborhood, with or without this tower. It used to be seedy, like downtown crossing, but now luxury housing is moving in.

The headline is very "Globe" NIMBY scare tactic though. "Central Square tower looms...."

The brick building is now gone as well - the demolition is almost complete!
