MXD II (Google Kendall) | 325 Main St. | Kendall Square | Cambridge

^^The original proposal was 33 stories and 395'. Tough to be sure from that render.
Looks like the same number of floors, or maybe 1 or 2 more?

It looks like a cross between Proto and Avalon North Station. At first blush I don't like it, particularly as a city's tallest.

It's great close up but not great zoomed out. Could just be the render, similar to what happened with MIT's Building 4. High-quality facade that we all hated in drawings but liked in reality.

Wow I thought this was gonna be glass, thats bad.
Always the optimist--i'm surprised by your dislike.

This looks very good, imo.
i think the more all glass stuff that goes up can be used by nimby's to denounce development.

Its alright, i was just looking forward to this with its mini hancock thing goin on. The new ones fine but its one of those precast towers you expect to see built for northeastern or something out on huntington ave. Actually I forget the name but it reminds me of that cancelled res tower that was proposed over there. Precast college dorm is fine, in context, but just doesnt scream Cambridges tallest to me. Itll be hidden by Volpe anyways and its off in the back anyways so no biggie.

Would have been nice next to the Volpe tower though.

I am not a fan of pre-cast, but with MXD I being a glass box, do we really need another glass box for MXD II? This thing looks a lot like the condo building behind Lord & Taylor.

If we have a mod changing names at the moment, recommend a change to "Google (MXD) | 325 Main Street | Kendall Square" to differentiate from the residential tower.

^too late, I'm already all confused. Whats this residential tower you speak of?

The residential building will be adjacent to the new Akamai building on Broadway (MXD phase 1, nearly complete). It will be built above the existing Kendall Center Blue Garage.

The new thread I created is "MXD Residential Tower | 135 Broadway | Kendall Square". The tower was discussed on the last couple of pages of this thread.

The reason MXD Phase II includes projects in two discontinuous locations is that the developer (Boston Properties - BXP) passed a master plan by the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority that included a phase 2 of an office tower and a residential tower. BXP intended to build them both on the MXD site at Broadway/Galileo/Binney (125 Broadway for Akamai was MXD I). Then, Google came calling and asked if they could partner on a new office tower to replace a portion of Cambridge Center, which BXP also owns. Because Cambridge Center is also technically a part of the MXD project boundary, they transferred the tower project from the corner of Binney and the Pedestrian Walk to 125 Main.

MXD II is a project consisting of two buildings more than a block apart (ccole posted the residential tower stuff on the right thread). I started this thread for the office tower when it was proposed. The residential tower is now a thing, and since they're entirely different projects in reality I think it's appropriate to have two threads.

^ Yea looks about right when matched with the render. Looks really good imo.

Ok, so this is the Google Building! Between the new construction here in Kendall, and all the new buildings going up in Cambridge Crossing, both sites with just references to Parcels or streets (to be fair, some might have no major tenants yet) in some cases, I find myself flipping back to pages 1,2 of each individual project, just to review what exactly is this building! Thankfully, the Seaport parcels (with the exceptions of Parcel K, Hyatt Place/Ora Apartments, and Parcel L4 Amazon (come on Mods, help us out here ;)) , I can keep those straight. The amount of new construction of MAJOR projects in Boston/Cambridge at this time is mind-boggling (and frankly hard to keep up)! One final note, I'll have to thank again, all of y'all who post pics (so appreciated), and to the mods who do their very best to keep things orderly and simple, in spite of this continuing, explosive amount of new construction everywhere!
