New Red and Orange Line Cars

Ive seen old green line cars being shipped out of the city on tractor trailers surrounded by police cruisers 3 times now going from the pike to 128. Idk what this means, but maybe the new trains are coming?

Either that, or more Type 7's are being taken out temporarily for overhauls.

Type 7 rebuild program. The flatbeds go out to the Alstom plant in Hornell, NY, staying on I-90 until Rochester.

All repairable cars have already been shipped out. 10 are still out at Alstom waiting to be shipped back to Riverside on flatbed. The only possible remaining outbound shipment left is 1 of the 4 wrecked-beyond-repair cars stored way in the back at Riverside, which may get sent to Alstom to be scrapped for parts to feed the 2 wreck victims they're bringing back to life.

This train is not in service. Looks like they're training crew on it. If anyone has time, access to the platform is open (as of this afternoon) and you can probably walk right up to it. I didn't have time to stop.

I'll be so glad when those old relics start being taken out of service to make room for these beauties to take over!!

Uhh...there's a major car shortage to begin with, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. It is NOT a good thing that 01200's are already crapping out from winter maladies before their replacements go into service. It means we're in for a long winter on Orange because the reinforcements won't be coming in quantity until the warmer months.

You might be waiting a long time. The Orange Line cars are going to be incrementally put in over the coming year.

You mean that we have to go through another winter with the old cars before the first few new cars come into revenue service?!! Jesus!!

Rollout is scheduled to wrap up in what - 2021?

I know that it'll be a few more years before the new cars reach a substantial amount before the old ones are gone, but my god, don't they think that we are tired of those trains by now?

Look on the bright side, at least they didn't wait for the entire fleet to shit the bed before even making plans to replace them, which would have been par for the course with the mbta.

Improvement!

It's on every goddamn slide the FCMB releases for the Red/Orange modernization updates. You know...the same ones where you bump this thread every other week to tell us the into-service date hasn't changed.

This is not news. The last of the 01200's won't be retired from revenue service until late-2020, and then it'll take through 2021 to deliver the 32-car fleet expansion part of the order. The complete 01200 fleet--sorriest-condition cars included--has 1 more winter to go, and the least-shot 50% of the old fleet has 2 more winters to go.

That's so ridiculous to have to wait even that long! I've only seen one fleet change since the OL started being called the OL, and that is to the existing fleet.

The Pullman cars were long gone! The OL was the last to get a fleet change.

How long have you lived in the Boston area for? Because you should know that it takes forever to roll out these changes with the T. Give it time. The Orange Line cars are coming out incrementally throughout the new year and then the Red Line cars will be rolled out in 2020.

Guys, I'll try to put this a gently as I can.

Jahvon really like trains. And that's OK. As best I can tell, there is a wide spectrum of users on this site.

Some are just more fixated on certain things than others. Ya dig?

I’m driving west on the Pike out around Sturbridge and a new Orange Line car just passed me going in the other direction!
