New Red and Orange Line Cars

I despise that kind of mindless shit, never did it myself and have never understood why anyone would.

Because you're a nihilist and you don't see any value to things being nice for anyone.

I had to read this three times before I realized that the 'you' equilibria is referring to is the 'anyone' in CMTAs question, and not CMTA himself.

i.e. Equilibria is saying the answer to the question 'why would anyone do this?' is, "because that person is a nihilist and doesn't see value etc..."

OH! I thought his response was being jokingly nihilistic, or I would have realized my mistake. Yes, of course. I didn't mean you, Charlie. Sorry!

The Pompeii graffiti at least said something in the time it was written. Nowadays we apparently just scrawl our names. Not even our real ones.

You'd rather they wrote in complete sentences?

I.7.8 (bar; left of the door); 8162: We two dear men, friends forever, were here. If you want to know our names, they are Gaius and Aulus.

I.10.4 (exterior of the House of Menander); 8304: Satura was here on September 3rd

V.3.9 (House of Cosmus and Epidia; right of the door); 6702: Aufidius was here. Goodbye

I suppose my point is, it seems to be a thing humans do and there's no stopping it. But maybe having the trains actually in motion would reduce it, and not have them sitting there as static ornaments.

Actually, that does sound much more classy.

IX.8.3 (House of the Centenary; in the latrine near the front door); 5243: “Secundus defecated here” three time on one wall.

Herculaneum (on the exterior wall of a house); 10619: Apollinaris, the doctor of the emperor Titus, defecated well here

VII.9 (Eumachia Building, via della Abbondanza); 2048: Secundus likes to screw boys.

III.5.3 (on the wall in the street); 8898: Theophilus, don’t perform oral sex on girls against the city wall like a dog

No problem. I appreciate you and a lot of others on here.

The news report said that the new trains are made from a material that allows graffiti to be easily removed.

So whoever did that, they thought that they were hurting the train or the T, they were hurting themselves! Hopefully, they'll get caught soon.
They should have the T police standing by & watch out for the perpetrators!! :x

They're regular stainless steel, like the Red 01800's, Blue 0700's, commuter rail bi-levels, and nearly all Amtrak cars. Stainless repels normal paint so well you'll notice all those cars have decal or other specialty coatings for their exterior livery. They can take any graffiti clean off with a power washer. That's why "scratchitti" ended up becoming a minor nuisance with the 01800's; it was the only thing the taggers could do that was halfway difficult to scrub out.

In fact, you can take the entire paint job off a stainless steel car with a sufficiently powerful power washer. Amtrak has a 60,000 PSI car wash at its main shop in Beech Grove, IN that can strip every fleck, stripe, and piece of lettering off anything on its roster within minutes so they can re-paint from the ground up.

Looks like they are waiting for all this other stuff to be done first; signaling, track work, repair houses & whatever else have you, before the let the new trains come on board! In the meantime, we're forced to deal with those old & decrepit Relics of the Dinosaur Age. while they make excuses up the wazoo to hold them off for as long as they can!!:shock:

Nice pics!! I STILL have yet to see one in person, except for the mockup which was on display last year in front of City Hall!! Guess I'll see them when I get to ride one of the new trains after they begin revenue service, whenever that is.

They're visible from Wellington Station, sitting at the yard.

South End??? What a strange routing. They can't do Route 16 to reach Wellington from 93, 2, or 1? It's got unlimited clearance between all expressways it touches.

Someone posted a video on reddit of it going down Blue Hill Ave.

That sequence has them going the wrong way south down a one way street - almost as if heading to Cabot yards. A long way from Wellington....

Edit: Twitter does indeed have a photo of two OL cars in the RL Cabot storage yard https://www.universalhub.com/2019/more-new-orange-line-cars-get-delivered-red-line

Could swear I saw some Red Line ones sitting north of the Broadway Bridge last time I ran over, but I didn't stop for pictures. That was about a week ago. But it's too soon for that, right?

They have begun testing them on the actual OL tracks. My son texted me a picture recently of one at Forest Hills. No passengers, but at least one train is running on operational tracks. I'm hoping to see it at some point.
