New Red and Orange Line Cars

Any word on when the new Red cars will be coming? I remember even seeing pictures and videos of the orange trains in China being tested. Im still yet to ever see even a picture of a fully assembled red line car, only the models that were displayed. Anyone know whats going on and the timelines? Thanks.

Per the 8/12 FCMB meeting, assembly of the first pilot is wrapping up in China right now and first pair should be delivered to Cabot Yard within the next month. Non-revenue testing is going to take all of Fall and Winter, and first revenue service is scheduled for Spring 2020. Somewhat lower gestation period between first pilot and first revenue run because all the core systems got their teething on the Orange pilots.

Dates subject to change, etc. etc.

I think that the new Red Line cars will come over the same as the new OL cars are. Four or six of the cars will come fully assembled & ready to go for immediate testing, while four empty shells will come over for assembly. :)

I saw 1400 on the tracker today. Promising sign.

The new set in revenue service was running this AM during the rush. Not saying it hasn't happened yet, but it's the first I've seen it. I've only seen it off-peak prior to this morning.

Today was indeed the inaugural morning peak run! Still running!

Exciting (and testing the attachment function)!

Anecdotal, but I'm a more-than-daily Orange Line rider, and I rode the new set this morning for the first time! Very exciting.

As you surely all know, automated station announcements, wider hard-plastic seats, wider doors, etc. It really felt like time traveling into the 21st century. That is the best way I can describe it.

Also, I rode the new train to North Station, where I walked through the new pedestrian tunnel to the Commuter Rail. What a difference a year makes! Progress.

I know i'm on the wrong thread here, but looking at newtrains.today it now looks like there is a 3rd Green Line type 9 car in service.

Should be 5 in service (3900-3904) and then another 5 in testing (3905-3909)

One of these days when I am not running late for work, I am going to just sit at Oak Grove until it comes in.

Hopefully in a few weeks the 2nd set will go online, and getting on one of the new trains will be a bit easier.

Same, except it will be Forest Hills in my case. I tried to time things this morning to ride it, but it was too far out of sync with when I needed to get to the office. I'll keep trying!

I got a new orange line train at about 7:45 am yesterday headed north from Forest Hills. The best part was how excited everyone was to be on this nice, new car. The cleanliness and brightness were great. The wider doors also seemed to make a difference. Didn't love the beeping doors. And everything was still slow going because of the tracks. But it was such a huge improvement. Can't wait until they are just normal.
