My intro seminar in 09 wasn't much better. Although I think we were on the 2nd floor at Ryder if I remember correct.

About the info sessions: unlike some institutions, Northeastern does not put a cap on how many visitors are allowed to visit the school in a day. So some days (especially in April), Northeastern will average between 800 to 1,600 registered visitors in a day. When that happens, the center needs a larger space to accommodate all families for their session because the old center only seated about 65 people. The new one looks like it seats over 100. Still, when you have to fight for a lecture hall on campus while classes are in session, you could get bumped to an undesirable location (like the 4th floor of Curry or 2nd floor of Ryder).

This new center offers info sessions more frequently and cut their duration in half, so it'll become VERY rare to "shepherd" visitors to far away lecture halls.

Glad you like the design, datadyne007. The goal was sophistication; the school consulted professionals from Apple, Disney, and other leaders in customer service to maximize the visitor experience to the school. NU already sees more visitors annually than any other university in Massachusetts.

My first impression was that it looked like a new interactive exhibit that you'd see at Epcot Center (except not dated like most of Epcot).
 
It honestly looks like what would happen if an Apple Store and a Microsoft Store had a baby.

Do you know what firm did it?
 
I don't remember off the top of my head, but I'm pretty certain this wasn't their first project at Northeastern.
 
There's going to be a Popeye's *and* a Uburger? And this shortly after I move out of the NU area. Blast...
 
After eating Popeye's in Medford during July 4th, I'll have to say that I'll never ever eat there during the school year. No offense to those who enjoy it but I felt like I'm eating a heart attack each bite. I didn't know there was butter on everything!
 
This space use to be a couple classrooms and some offices. The university wanted to consolidate the admissions offices and the visitor center into one central place (before they were scattered across campus). And doing that freed up space elsewhere on campus allegedly for new class spaces.

Data -- the really cool feature is that they actually have something in their technical programs worthy of hype -- e.g. theBernard M. Gordon Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems

Update -- apparently some of their physics grads never learned about energy density
Rezwan Ferdaus, the 26-year-old Massachusetts resident arrested in an FBI sting for allegedly concocting a far-fetched plot to attack the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon with model airplanes outfitted with C-4 explosives, has reached a plea deal.

Under the deal — which still has to be approved by a federal judge — Ferdaus will plead guilty to attempting to damage and destroy a federal building by means of an explosive and to attempting to provide material support to terrorists.

Just a reminder to anyone interested, the Northeastern Task Force will be hosting another meeting tomorrow night from 6PM to 8PM to discuss the Institutional Master Plan. As usual, I'll be at the meeting and come back with notes, but encourage other folks to come take part in this process.



And if you need a better reason, they usually have free cookies for guests. ;)

Their fries are amazing, their biscuits are amazing, their sweet tea is amazing, their chicken is amazing. Come on, its a Southern Fried Chicken chain, what do you expect?

I didn't think they would butter everything. If they to order a butter on a stick, they would have butter on that butter.
 
There was another Northeastern Task Force meeting tonight for the IMP. I took notes and LOTS of photos because...

WE'VE GOT RENDERINGS!!!


The planners put together a presentation showing the massing and mixed uses they aim to include for different sections throughout Northeastern's campus. I would share my photos of the presentation screen, except they came out really crappy (it wasn't a very big screen). But usually the university posts the presentations and minutes on their IMP website a few days later. So when that happens, I'll share that presentation on here and encourage everyone to take a look... it's all very exciting!

Wow Northeastern is really trying to cram everything in a small area. I really hope they don't over develop the campus, leading to a loss of quads and parks.

As a matter of fact, their plan adds quads and parks to campus. No quad space is lost (Centennial, Snell, West Village, Spear, Science, & Krentzman quads are all safe), but you'll notice that removing Cabot from the center of campus allows them to add a couple additional greenspaces (AND activates the streetwall along Huntington), and then they essentially create Krentzman Quad South along Columbus Avenue with the new Academic buildings on top of the Columbus Lot.

These planners are doing an awesome job, trust me. The students should be very grateful.
 
Isn't Cabot a fairly new building? Surprised to see a site redeveloped so quickly.
