Nice!

As fate would have it, I saw the first render of the new bridge today in a Construction Update article for Northeastern News. (apologies for the small size)

I talked to NU's Institutional Planner a year or two ago about the Arc. The university faced so much legal red tape to get 'one' bridge approved, they don't think they'll ever be able to construct a new crossing over the tracks again. Too many stakeholders (MassDOT, Amtrak, Feds); complicated air rights process; delays from the Ruggles platform expansion project.

You're right, though, it is better than nothing. I'm glad to see they're also bridging over the access road behind the Snell & Egan. That work's well underway on campus.

Are there any renderings of what this bridge will look like when done?

Thank you for the links to this, Tom!!!

This is awesome - - I'm giddy about it - - really wish I was up there to watch this in person.

Bridging those tracks in that location is a great act of urban development. The act of hiking Boston changes dramatically with it.

I can't imagine how that area has changed in the past 25 years.

Just saw this in the 2nd link:

"Tune in to watch it live
During the second stage of the installation, on Sunday, October 14 from 12:01 to 1:30 a.m., Northeastern will host a “Midnight Master Class,” including a lecture and expert interviews that will explain the details of the construction, to be followed by a live viewing of the bridge installation. Both the Midnight Master Class and the live construction will be streamed via Facebook Live from 12:01 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. at facebook.com/northeastern"

It happened!!!!!!

Really - - kudos to Northeastern for, not only visionary urban planning, but making it a spectacular curriculum integration for those students who will probably never forget the midnight class. Impressive all around.

.

The live feed started 30 minutes late on Facebook but it was worth the wait.

It was also mentioned in the presentation that planning for ISEC II is well underway.
