I took a couple of construction pics in Providence one afternoon last week.
This is my first post with my own pics. I hope they're okay.

If NIMBYs had their way, THAT would be the tower:

Some of the pics of Waterplace came out blurry (low light, deleted) but here are two clear pictures with the buildings (partially) in them.

I didn't get a chance to take an updated photo of the Renaissance Providence Masonic Temple Hotel, but here's two taken with my phone last winter:

I couldn't believe the walls were standing up that way for that long. Anyways, here's a couple more random ones. Enjoy.

The big 3 (for now):

And finally, a really, really thin building:

Awesome pictures, looks like lots of stuff happenin'.

Great pics! There is certainly a lot going on in Providence right now. My understanding is that the Masonic Temple is coming along well and should be done around December.

I'm working in Providence this next semester, I should go taking pictures asap. These buildings are coming close to being fully topped off (except 110 Westminster) really soon.

Keepin' the Providence Thread alive! Read above! Here is a recent web cam view of the new Westin:

Comin' along...

Wow! Providence is blowing up!

Is there anyway that someone could get a panoramic view of the skyline with the new additions? It's been about 10 years since I have been there.

Thanks!

I'm surprised people in Boston visit Providence so rarely. It's very lively, surprisingly varied given its size, and only an hour's drive. From Needham it usually takes me less time to get there than to Cambridge when there's traffic.

Also easy to reach from Boston by both Peter Pan bus and MBTA train.

Yes, going home from school, I just take the train 55 minutes into Downtown Providence from Ruggles (on my campus). Very convenient. I see I promised pictures, let's see if I can live up to that promise. I'll be in providence with time tomorrow, I'll bring my camera.

I just got done looking at a multitude of photographs of providence on the city's website. WOW! what an amazing looking place. it looks very big-city-ish, yet still manageable (unlike a lot of really major cities, where there seems to be no breathing room). I really liked how the river which runs through town has been capitalized on and made to look more like venice than a former mill-town. is it clean or dirty? I mean, I know one wouldnt want to swim in it, probably, but if one fell in would they meet three-eyed fish? again, what an amazing looking pace...to me it reminded me a lot fo what I like about my own city (portland) but just bigger and better. it had a sizeable downtown, yet still had wilderness, good scenery, and places to relax. best of both worlds. very stately looking houses, and brown university looks a lot like UVM in burlington. great architecture, and a population of under 200k?? that is pretty amazing. I like what I saw a lot. unfortunately when I first visited my only impressions were due to JWU and the surrounding downtown area, which I thought was a bit dumpy. but the pics I just saw were great. check them out if you havent already.

I just got back, I haven't had a chance to edit any pictures or anything, but here's a coming attraction, if you will:

Do you have a link by any chance patrick?

New pic (5 in 1, actually) taken today as I was driving through...

BTW nothing new at 110 Westminster. They're mainly bracing up an old wall that I'm assuming will be against the new building.

I was in providence yesterday morning/afternoon. I am sorry to say, I was unimpressed. The downtown seemed unexciting, and not too pedestrian friendly. It was rather cold. By Brown University was nice, but could have been a ot nicer for an Ivy league school/location. There were a few nice houses, but one block away was an extremely run down area that looked like it was from the industrial revolution. There were vacant wharehouse buildings in fields with missing windowns and graffitti, and lots of sketchy places down by the ferry/watefront under the new highway bridges that are being constructed. basically, the whole city kind of disappointed me. The new westin is almost done, but what are all of the people who live in it going to do during the day? Go to the mall? I think if the area around the river that runs through the section between downtown and the Brown university area was expanded outwward, providence would be very nice. Unfortunately, you have to drive through areas that make the trip almost not worth it just to get into the city. I see potential, but a lot of problems there. Ate lunch at Katabar or some lebanese sounding name like that by Brown, pretty neat area, and stopped by the Roger williams statue park, which was scratched by profanities.
