Not sure if I really think anyone should be banned, but, if you create a post asking people to vote if you should be banned or not - well, that is just asking to be banned.

In--Means stay in the site
Out--Means all out banish.

I will give it for the rest of the day to see if somebody breaks the tiebreaker for good or bad.

I think we might be at the point of a permaban, but I do believe that mods should be giving short term bans more often to a variety of users for persistent infringement of common decency & forum etiquette.

A very large community I once managed used the vBulletin infraction system in which users accumulated points for infractions (spam was 1 point, harassment 2, etc) and then were automatically banned for a week after accruing a certain number of points. After reaching enough bans, the user was permabanned, pending review by admins. While I feel that we shouldn't need this type of system for a small architecture community forum, there are certain members on here where this may be useful & possibly curtail behavior. Most users on here would never see an infraction or even know the system is in use, but a certain group would.

This is more voluntarily if people want me off this site I will comply.

I have wasted alot of time and energy on this site. WASTED.

You finally posted something that is 100% true. At least 95% of your posts have been a waste of everyone else's time, too. I'm trying to be generous here, giving you credit for that 5%.

Thanks for being honest. How does it make you feel that you actually read this thread?

Talk about wasted time.

Statler,

Delete TheRifleman username from the site: Including all my posts: 3,589 connected to Archboston.

Thanks

Hmm, guess I've missed some shit lately.

Also, it won't let me vote.

Much ado about nothing. Rifleman is not getting banned regardless of the poll and regardless of whether he wants it. If Rifleman doesn't want to post anymore, he shouldn't post anymore.

Mod policy regarding off-topic posts:
Off-topic posts should be moved from development threads to the general forum, but not deleted. There should not be any political editorializing, one way or the other, involved in the moderation of posts on the forum.

This site is officially apolitical.

Since my thread was locked, I'm going to go ahead and respond here:

Okay so now Rifelman has opened his own trolling page in response to this troll page. Let's do this: Shut down this page. Shut down his page. And go back to writing about architecture and development in and around Boston. If Rife trolls again, fucking ignore him. If anyone trolls in the same manner as Rife, we'll fucking ignore you, too. It's very temping to take the bait- it's the same reason many people watch Jerry Springer. However, I'd like to think that his page can be a bit higher brow than that.

First, I wasn't trolling. I was having a little (admittedly immature) fun. I thought people may enjoy some poorly done satire in between the arguing about politics and debt and how tall buildings should be, and as others were joining in it doesn't appear that I was the only one who felt that way. There was a real discussion being had, even if some may have seen it only as childish trolling.

I'd also argue that when the guy who insults entire subgroups of people and repeatedly drags the forum into the muck absurdly threatens a lifetime self-banishment and then returns after a few weeks that maybe he could use a bit of a ribbing.

Yes, I could put him on my ignore list as I've done a couple times already, but it doesn't ignore the responses to his posts, so unless everyone does so it's rather pointless. Everyone will not do so because curiosity generally wins the day and then we're back at square one. My ignore list does not stop threads from being derailed and it does not stop this forum from becoming a near constant shitshow. I'd also point out that as the thread was in the 'Board Issues' subforum you very well could have taken your own advice and simply ignored it rather than requesting a lock.

Which brings us to your hope concerning the height of aB's brow. I think we're in the same boat here to an extent. I visit this place in order to keep up with, simply put, how things look. But more-so I come here for the broader discussions concerning urban planning, development, transit, preservation, etc. which I haven't really been able to find elsewhere. And so I find it disheartening to see one discussion after another fall into the same trap, and I feel for Statler who generally seems to be left cleaning up the mess. I'll also say that if a place becomes too concerned with its own class and doesn't allow a little levity occasionally it just becomes stuffy.

I don't quite understand why briv won't acquiesce and simply delete the account since that is what Rifle himself is requesting, but so it goes. All that is to say, I recognize that the Rifleman problem isn't going away and that things will pretty much go on as they have, but for god's sake, at least recognize the ridiculousness and let us have a little fun with it.

Thanks for letting me get all that out. Catharsis and all that.

Rifleman comes back for two days and fucks up the forum again. It was so nice when he was gone.

Perhaps we should just 'sage' every single one of his posts.

Nice post, Justin. You bring up some good points.

I get where Briv and Statler are coming from. I've participated in some forums that are borderline militaristic in their moderation (no language, likes to "competitors," insulting other forum members, etc.) and it's infuriating and takes away from real discussion. One great thing about AB is that there's none of that. "Trolls" have been allowed because banning opposing viewpoints makes conversation homogeneous which makes it dull. Not banning Rif keeps in line with that precedent.

At the same time, Rif is one of the longer tenured "trolls" (I use it loosely because he really seems to believe the crap he posts) I've seen on this or any other forum. The worst I can think of here before Rif is Ned Flaherty who, in spite of his unrelenting, lengthy rants on the impending doom- due to the particles- of everyone who came into contact with Columbus Center, at least went away when that project died. There have been some others: APOM (aka BOS>NYC!!!) was difficult, but he's presumably in a "better" place (highrise in the Loop), and TikiNYC was annoying, but harmless. BostonBred is delightful, imho. But Rif is frustrating for his sheer longevity and his uncanny ability to turn anything into a political diatribe about how Boston and Massachusetts are CORRUPT and raping TAXPAYERS. I can tolerate a level of ill-informed conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but it's getting to the point that he's derailing almost everything. I'm normally not too annoyed by anyone, but I'm leaning towards "bye."

The real problem is this group of millennial idiots on this forum just are trying to discredit everything I say.

The only people that would discredit anybody are insecure know it alls.

The reason this groups is very angry at me at this point is calling out the democrats about being dishonest and lack of character.

I have no problem in leaving this site. But I want all my posts deleted from this site along with my account deleted. Those are my thoughts and ideas that are getting attacked bY a group of fools.

Sorry I don't think like you so I don't belong on this site--and that my friends is why this group is a bunch of losers.

Rifle, or it could be that people just want to talk about architecture and development.
