I'm pretty certain on this site years ago someone linked an article quoting the designer of the trellises who claimed that vines were not intended, but rather that the trees planted adjacent will grow and provide shade instead

I always wondered what Beton Brut looked like...

[/url]
LOL, well I've met Beton Brut in person and he looks much more typical than this guy who seems to have walked out of the monty python holy grail stage set...

Chainmail ... and a pipe. Don't overlook the pipe. "A rugged Minnesotan farm upbringing punctuated with quixotic escapism made for Karl Unnasch's background." Oh, of course!
I cannot conceive of a better antidote to the incessantly insufferable Minnesotan, Garrison Keillor.

I think you're right.

The horizontal rafters are too far apart to support vines.

WBUR piece on the augmented reality accompaniement to this year's public art, which overlays the Greenway with memories of the past and visions of the future.

“Parcel 12 is located along the Greenway between North and Mercantile streets, next to the Dock Square Garage (which itself is about to undergo some major changes).

This latest request is for all or a portion of the crescent-shaped, approximately 8,000-square-foot spit of parkland. The Greenway Conservancy wants ideas that complement existing Greenway offerings. The winning idea could be installed in 2020 and stay there up to three years.

Both requests for ideas are due at noon on September 16. Stay tuned.”

It can actually be a decent space depending on how they choose to do this. The crescent piece is just a part of it. There's a pretty open space (you can see it here with the pink art installation) that isn't completely useless as well. A high wall of hardy bamboo or some tall greenery to buffer the space from the highway ramps and enclose it would help too. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

They need to stop screwing around and do something permanent, its past due. Ive always thought they could put stairs like at Millennium place starting over the deep parts then rising up to match the grade of the ramp rising below. Thats my idea at least but I dont think they allow public proposals on this one... which they should imo.

Stairs on a ramp like this I think would be cool in the right spot

Heres some of the MassDot ideas so far

Parcel 6

Parcel 12

Parcel 18

Theyve studied all kinds of ways to make it work, lets go...

They stole my idea that I posted on here 2-1/2 years ago:

.

I hope their (borrowed) proposal gets built.

I agree with vanshnookenraggen that parcel 12 seems really hard to actually "emparken", these changes are just adding enough space for a narrow path instead of diverting people to the existing sidewalk. Not much of an improvement (not to crap on anyone's ideas, I know it's still better than the current condition).

Does anyone know if renders exist for the original museum plan? I only found this information - and had no idea about the YMCA proposal. Now that the Gov't Center Garage is getting torn down and with The Beverly built next door, is there any chance of that parcel getting any love?

E: Found a gallery on the archive of the museum website, but it appears to have parcel 9 renders instead of 12:

E2: Got something!

May as well add some images of the New Center for Arts and Culutre that was supposed to be across from International Place. I still recall it being described by someone on the old forum as a "crushed egg carton atop some popsicle sticks". This parcel isn't too bad as it is today, unlike parcel 12.

Bonus post: I had nearly forgotten about the YMCA proposal for Parcel 6, cancelled due to cost. Maybe someday with the garage gone something could happen here:
