XenForo Update

It looks like there are some posts made here before modmin approval was disabled that are still up for approval. But it's only happened to me in this forum as well.

On mobile, in portrait and within each subforum, the thread creator (not too meaningful of a data point for so many 13-year-old threads) is listed below the title but not the username of the person who posted most recently, only the number of replies and the time of the most recent post. The most recent poster name does show up on the forum home page though, so maybe that style could be adopted in each subforum too?

Happy to see this moving along.

@SkyriseCities

With great power comes great responsibility.

Having said that, I'm looking foward to seeing you move archBoston into the 21st century. I'm excited to see the much needed updates roll out to aB, and I'm happy to see you taking the communities comments and suggestions to heart.

The update to xenforo system is a great start.

Has the new users issue been addressed yet? I'm a long time mostly lurker who, for many years, was unable to become a member of aB with my own account until I was able to contact some higher up moderators (via a post I think I saw on /r/Boston).

Best,

^^ Agree, but on the plus side the tread title is in the URL now, which is nice.

This may be petty, but I did like having the "re; [thread title]" over every post in a thread.

Agreed, especially because on this forum were going through so many different projects at a time vs somewhere where youd just be posting in 1 thread. Here we check every thread for new photos, info, updates whatever, and a few times Ive been like wait what thread am I in right now again?

Just logged on for the first time in a couple days, had no idea and was not expecting this.

First, five minutes impression:
Looks good
Better on the mobile phone by far
And as has already been said on here...
Definitely needs the buttons that let you navigate to your choice of either first post of a thread or last post of a thread.
Also, I have multiple “alerts” for post view counts (?) someone else commented on this already... this needs to be axed. I don’t want junk alerts like you get on pretty much everything these days.

Overall will take some getting used to but looks good...

Also -
Yes, we need an edit button.

And - we also seem to have lost the user stats that showed under each posters name on individual posts. I like knowing their join date and number of posts, can this be reinstalled?

Looks like the maximum width of the forum content is set to 1200px. Can this constraint be removed? Seems like a waste of screen real estate and feels a little dated.

I like how quoted pictures are initially collapsed. Help direct the eye to new and original content.

Where are the last and first page buttons per thread? Those are crucial.

Disregard, I see the max page counts, which will work. However, I see there is no edit feature, but that may be a good thing.

Thanks for working so hard on the update, guys!

One thing (not for management): can folks make sure we all get profile pics? Ironically, adding the default letters makes it harder to follow the thread, since the letters are colored the same in each case and it takes the eye away from the names.

This may be petty, but I did like having the "re; [thread title]" over every post in a thread.

I agree. I open up 15+ tabs at a time, so it is helpful.

The button to go to the last unread post should come back.

The main page is way too narrow.

Each topic on the subforum pages used to have a button that would take me to the last unread post, which I used frequently. I'm not sure if I'm just missing it here, but if that feature is currently absent and could be added back in, it would be a big help. Thanks!

We will be improving things over the next few weeks. Keep the comments coming.
