Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

The only slope requirement I see is Chapter 2 page 2.8 which says cross slope can not exceed 2%. I don't see a longitudinal limit listed. (page 59 in PDF)

Or seeing a freight train at the grade crossing west of the rotary.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Starrucca Viaduct, a stone arch in Pennsylvania built for $320,000 and opened in 1848 is still in use by freight trains today. A spectacular stone structure, National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Good info here...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Unfortunately I commuted for decades through the rotary. An example of how bad it is that in the evening commute Waze will take you off RT 2 WB at Rt 62, take you through West Concord on to Laws Brook Rd past the rotary, you then take a right on to School St., where you can get on RT 2 EB...

Freight and General New England RR News

In a example of poetic justice CSX has taken the observation car of Timothy Mellon's former Pan Am business train and converted it to the car for Santa to distribute presents to children in Appalachia. The inside was gutted to hold gifts. Story from Trains Magazine----...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

If they specifically said gauge your right, they are talking about the rails on one track. I'd like to see the result of their investigation, this still is an unusual event.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The discussion on the "tracks too close to each other" has revolved around gauge being too tight, is anyone sure that is what they are saying or is it that the inbound and outbound tracks are too close to each other. Commonly known to experienced track people as "track centers." In other words...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I can't understand the 3 mph limit, that would be something a freight railroad would do over a completely broken rail, fractured top to bottom, with a track foreman watching the train cross the defect. I can't believe these defects warrant the 3 mph speeds. I agree with jdrinboston, the lawyers...

    Electronic Tolls (& Avoidance)

I have always found it strange that a lot of states issue temporary plates, which are typically a paper plate that has temp, some numbers and the state on it. It seems they would easily be counterfeited these days. In Mass. I have never known for them to exist, you get a permanent plate when you...

Infrastructure to Nowhere (The Vestigial Infrastructure Thread)

I grew up in Arlington and remember sometime in the 60's or 70's I heard the reason the overpass was built was that kids were getting hit by cars running across the road to get to the bowladrome.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Getting off topic but OSHA has no jurisdiction over accidents or work rules involving employees of state governments , only if it was a worker employed by a private contractor can they step in.
