The new inner belt entrance to the East Somerville station opened yesterday.

holy crap, the absolute state of this. New public infrastructure in the US. Looks like something out of an Onion article. Steps from MIT, Kendal, and now CX.

Stayed out of this thread because the plans depressed me. Saw it in person. It's awful. Even small changes to materials could have made it so much better.

actually seems like way longer than 2018. According to google maps, ground work was underway in Sep '16. I think they've been building this for 10 years :) (and by the looks of it, the design is 30 years old)

I think it does belong in Central, but Davis and Central are very different. I think there could be a good core ring of highrise residential from Central to Union to the inner belt to hood park. The inner belt is far more connected via transit than Davis. OL, GL E and D all walkable. Again...

I live in East Somerville, right next to the inner belt and Brickbottom. I lived around Davis and Teele about 10 years ago. I don't think my proximity really affects my view on the project.

The innerbelt and brickbottom are not the same industrial waste areas of say 10 years ago. The community path and GLX station make a huge connectivity difference. With McGrath coming down, they'll be even more connected. I'd wager that the land value will be similar to Davis in 10 years. I get...

Yeah, I think so. You could develop a nice street wall all along Elm st. and up Grove st. 3 over 1. Commercial and residential. You provide extra housing and retail without killing off the urban village feel that Davis has. Put small alleys through to a communal green space behind. Continue at...
