Going to be interesting demolition.

Build housing! Near new commuter rail stop and bus from NB used to stop there on its way to Boston. At the intersection of 140 and 24. Get it done.

$29M in Construction Financing Secured for Taunton Industrial Project

“Portman Industrial has closed on $29M in construction financing for the first phase of the redevelopment of the former Silver City Galleria in Taunton. Plans call for a 1.1M square foot industrial park with the first phase to include a 248,435-square-foot industrial building with 32-foot clear heights, over 270 parking spaces, and 29 trailer drops. The loan was provided by BMO Harris Bank with JLL representing the borrower in the transaction.”

Glad to see it moving forward, it's probably the best use for this land. I'd love something sexier, but this is the confluence of two major highways with roadway infrastructure that's already in place to accommodate the truck traffic. Glad to see it doing more than sitting vacant.

Wow, this is a major upgrade for the Green. In terms of bones, the Taunton Green has great ones. Lots of untapped potential. Adding housing right in the thick of it should help it turn around. It has a long way to go to catch nearby Attleboro, but this is still great.

Bummer they couldn't save the buildings, but they've been in rough shape for a long time. Scorcese used the complex as a stand in for Dachau in Shutter Island which is a testament the appearance of the place.

Good for them. It'll be interesting to see how this goes. I know Taunton is now on the Commuter Rail, but it's a geographically large town and this complex is a little under 20 minutes from the East Taunton station. It's almost exactly 20 minutes to Mansfield. Considering the trip from Mansfield is 30 minutes quicker than the one from East Taunton (and it includes Back Bay), I suspect few residents will be utilizing South Coast Rail.
