I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

That's the vast majority of the hard part of the project. Hardly a "lets at least" situation.
True, but simplifying the project to construct the Throat section first, and hold off until later the new Allston interchange and street grid development part of the project, would enable the project to move forward.

That's literally what this project is.

I think the best course of action now is to just punt on this thing 10-20 years. Then revisit it then.

We're already spending $85M in temp repairs for the current project gridlock making us wait 10 more years for anything to happen. Do you really want to double or triple that figure to wait even longer in complete paralysis? How is that an acceptable choice???

The viaduct is shot. We can't do nothing forever or we'll end up by that very inertia inadvertently doing *one* thing: eventually replacing the whole viaduct in its as-is current configuration with no changes whatsoever. By overt choice or by the consequences of attrition. We either make that decision or it's made for us by backing into it. "Punting" is a totally false choice. Somebody's got to man up and chart a real way forward here.

I don't think that's a bad decision if the development cycle is going to be dead long term. It's the least invasive outcome.

Was hoping that enough time would pass before having to make that call. For now, MassDOT is just going to waste a bunch of money doing studies that won't be relevant by the time they might even have a shot of doing something.

It’s a terrible decision. It would mean spending a billion+ in limited infrastructure funding to cement the unsafe highway design and inefficient land use decisions of the 60s.

"We're going to build east-west rail and the nutmeggars are going to pay for it!"
Actually, it would only really cost the Connecticut drivers who use the Pike to go into 128 or in Town. Most people go 290 thru Worcester to go north or 495 to the south avoiding most tolls. NH people, barely use the Pike. CT residents use the Pike for free to go west into NY, so it is not unfair

Edit: Nope, I am wrong. They reinstated the tolls in Western Mass. However, I still think that a modest increase in the out of state toll is not unfair
