Attleboro Developments

The neighboring city of Pawtucket went this path several decades ago. It converted its Slater Park Zoo into a farmyard type experience. Got rid of its elephant, polar bear, lions, bears, monkeys, and tigers.

Hard to believe today but for a long time, the connected city string of Providence, Pawtucket, and Attleboro all simultaneously operated municipal zoos with exotic animals.

It's probably time for Capron Park Zoo to be repurposed. I have fond memories of the place, but it's tiny. It's probably not an ideal environment for the animals on exhibit. But I wish there was a way to maintain the feeling that comes with meandering down the paths from exhibit to exhibit. Because even without animals, many of these little old zoos are pleasant places to stroll. It'd be a shame for the public to lose access to that.

Capron Park also had one of the better 80s super jungle gym / playground setups around back then. Not as good as Roger Williams, but still up there. Frankly, that was the real highlight for us, not the animals.
