I think this is a good plan to give a new cross manhattan connection because half the island doesnt have one once you get above the bottom of central park. Also the bronx is still getting a new line with access to penn station when the 4 new stations open up on metro north. Theyre not being completely forgot about.

That services an entirely different market to the SAS extension into the Bronx, which is about relieving an overburdened 3rd ave corridor. I have no issue with the crosstown service so long as the provisions for the Bronx are left in..

And on this day exactly 10 years ago, January 25th, 2016, I went for a walk around newly-blanketed Manhattan from a major storm that hit the day before. I was living in Washington Heights at the time and this first shot waas taken right outside of my building

Taking the 1 train downtown, stopped at the one above-ground station at 125th to look around and then catch the next train

Amex Nears Deal for Last Office Tower at World Trade Center Site

American Express Co. is close to a deal to relocate its headquarters to 2 World Trade Center, a move that would allow Silverstein Properties to start construction of the long-planned Manhattan skyscraper, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
Any deal would likely need approval from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the owner of the land at the World Trade Center site, one of the people said. No agreement has been completed yet and it can still fall apart, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the matter is private.
The tower would be the final major office property in the redevelopment of the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Construction of the building has been on hold since 2016, when News Corp. and 21st Century Fox scrapped plans to move there. Silverstein Properties, whose chairman is Larry Silverstein, has been negotiating for years with other prospective anchor tenants.

NEW YORK — The World Trade Center's final office tower will start construction as soon as this spring and become American Express ' new headquarters, Gov. Kathy Hochul and the company said Wednesday, marking a milestone nearly 25 years after the Sept. 11 attacks destroyed the site.
The 2 World Trade Center building will round out the long, tortuous redevelopment of the original 16-acre trade center property. There remains no construction date for a neighboring apartment building to replace another 9/11-damaged skyscraper.
[...]
The 55-story, roughly two-million-square-foot (186,000-square-meter) 2 World Trade Center building is planned at the site's northeastern corner. The spot is currently occupied by a low placeholder building, covered with colorful graffiti-style murals, and a beer garden.
American Express declined to discuss the cost of the new building — which the company will own, leasing the underlying land — but said it doesn't involve any tax incentives. Messages seeking further information about the costs and financing of the project were sent to officials.
[...]
The company plans to occupy the entire Norman Foster -designed building, a sleek structure of glassy sections interspersed with landscaped terraces and gardens. It's expected to accommodate up to 10,000 workers; American Express declined to say how that compares to its current headquarters.
Completion is expected in 2031.

Sucks that this site went from iconic to just ok. Wtc1 is cool… except they never clad the spire so its always looked half assed. Then the rest of the towers got VE’d into glass boxes. Wtc2 would have been one of the most iconic, and now its whatever the hell this is.

It went from this

Pluss 3 wtc lots its 4 spires and just turned into yet another glass box.

💩

I even think that this stepped one was better than what theyre getting. Definitely MUCH worse than the diamond one, but better than the newest jumbled mess.

I wish that Silverstein built a second "Freedom Tower" (without the spire) as 2 WTC. It would've been a partial return to form without fully replicating the original Twin Towers.

Agree 100%. The worst part is that its not too late, they can still do this. Theres still time to fix this mistake. I think two modern blue glass towers is different enough from the originals that it would be tasteful while bringing back the iconic backdrop to lower manhattan. Its always looked empty ever since like theres something missing.

I am continually amazed that projects like that pencil out in New Rochelle but not in Boston.

Maybe it has something to do with IZ reqs that are 10% of units @ 80% AMI instead of 20% of units @ 60-70% AMI...
