Infill and Small Developments | Portland

Franklin Towers had a makeover over a decade ago which replaced all of the windows and center glass and utilized a blue/grey trim which helped. It will never look any better than it does now unless they paint the brick a different color which probably wouldn't work budget wise for a low income building of that size.

Wasn't there some discussion in the last year or two of a broader revitalization of Franklin Towers and the surrounding area? Future development on the adjacent surface parking, if I recall.

Anything that can be done to improve the exterior and living conditions will be wonderful and I'm just pleased that it is no longer Maine's tallest. Just noticed I'm no longer a New Member and have been elevated to an Active Member! :)

Here's Avesta's proposal for 15-19 Cedar Street, a now-empty lot that was until recently a small single-family home and currently owned by the Boys and Girls Club.

The plan calls for a 5-story building with 30 apartments. This would fulfill the Boys and Girls Club's legal obligation to replace the housing on the corner of Cumberland and Cedar, which they're proposing to demolish for their expansion:

A walk down Cedar Street and you'll quickly come to the conclusion that this building will be Taj Mahal worthy regardless of what the final design looks like! :)

Let's hope that's an early/unfinished render....seems very suburban atm.
I'm hoping it's AI slop and, not having a chance to give a person three arms at unnatural angles, it just chose to leave off the doors instead.l

That was submitted to the HP board for review, so...

The most recent Planning Board meeting had a workshop on a request to rezone 1220 Brighton Ave., the former Denny's lot, from TOD-2 (transit-oriented) to B-4 to allow a potential restaurant with a drive-through. It's interesting that the properties across the street (Motel-6 and that part of the Kohl's-area shopping center on the Portland side of the line) are already B-4, and in fact the original ReCode plan was for the lots south of Brighton and west of the Turnpike to be B-4, but those were amended during Council debate to become TOD-2.

They had a neighborhood meeting, to which no one came... unsurprising since there are no residences within the 500 feet and all the businesses are essentially compatible with the intended use of the lot.
