West Cambridge / Alewife Area Infill & Small Developments

That area desperately needs some night life options.

Man, the units in that building have no color what so ever! Bland on bland, not even an accent wall. Sad that a lot of folks don't like to have color in their lives. Maybe they had art work was on the walls?

-Awesome, the second building seems to be moving forward still and has an official render. Phase 1 was already completed which helps the street wall here a lot and phase 2 will fill in even more of the massive parking lot.

Affordable Housing Development Planned for 350 Rindge Avenue in Cambridge

“A new affordable housing development is planned at 350 Rindge Avenue in Cambridge, proposing the construction of approximately 92 units of 100% affordable housing in a transit-accessible, amenity-rich location. The project aims to balance increased density with thoughtful design while working with the current business owner to enhance the existing commercial space. Planned for households earning between 30% and 80% of Area Median Income, the development will also include roughly 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, allowing for the return of Ferro’s Foodtown……”

Are you sure this is the same building? It looks to be proposed on the corner of Rindge and ... Rindge? (in red), while the phase 2 building render in the second image is in the Fresh Pond Apartments parking lot (in blue).

Yeah - this building is in your red square, directly across Rindge from the first base / right field line of that baseball field. Note the "double dormer" at the lower right with the side of the tower in the background in both this shot below and in the renders.

Just once, I'd love so see pushback against a proposed project for being "out of context with the neighborhood" on the basis that the neighborhood is 20+ story 200+ unit towers and the proposed project is too small to match that context.

Makes sense I didnt have time to look and assumed it was the other building. Hopefully that one is still happening.

I assume Muchnik and the rest of the BANANA crowd will make an exception for this project because of its location. It’s in the existing affordable housing zone hemmed in by Rindge, Route 2, the railroad tracks, and the cemetery.

The project better not be taking out Ferro's Foodtown, as it is the only food store in the area, serving the large low income housing developments nearby.

Thanks! That's a relief. I grew up about 1 block from there, and used that store a lot. I personally know the people living around there now depend on it a lot.
