kz's Wanderings Around Greater Boston

That's in my town! Just a perfectly preserved 1970s pizza parlor. There's just benches behind where I'm standing in that shot but if this were the '90s there probably would've been some arcade games back there, maybe a Galaga and a Donkey Kong. One can imagine!

Always wanted to shoot Sacred Heart in large format, but it's so hard to get a good angle on it. That's about as good as it gets!

That was such a hastily taken shot, waiting to turn left there and very quickly swapping lenses to the ultra wide architectural one. This is totally one of those buildings I've been trying to get a good shot of for years but am always just driving by and caught off guard by it. Literally one decent shot of it in 5+ years 🤡

Continuing with May...

I know what you mean. I have a friend who lives in West Newton and I drive through there all the time and think about it every time I see it. The utility lines through the intersection are incredibly obtrusive there, and the building being on a slight rise is impressive, but makes it hard to get a good angle. I've sometimes pondered trying to get permission to get up on the roof of the old filling station/garage across the street, but it is exceedingly unlikely I'll ever get around to it. But you never know!

Speaking of that old garage, I took this right before the church shot, being blinded by the Cybertruck in the lane right next to me. Bonus rando Waltham pic!

The upstairs had three small rooms and all of them had SEVERE tobacco staining and it reeked of pipe tobacco. This is the worst staining I've personally seen, and I applied a little correction in the top right corner to give you an idea of what color those white acoustical tiles SHOULD be

I fell in love with this house last week. This is 55 Brand St in Arlington, built in 1967 and chock full of so many period details that were all kept in rather immaculate condition. The layout is a bit wonky, at least in part due to the fact it's built into a hillside, but it also is fairly wide open and ready for reimagining

Most homes I form zero attachment to. But this house.... clearly someone loved their home and made it a warm and inviting place. Like imagine how amazing Thanksgiving 1978 was here, or a random July evening in 1985...

And considering this was my last job for the day, it was unoccupied, and the realtor was elsewhere, I took this freedom and for the first time threw on the detail lens and spent a little time capturing all the lovely little period pieces I saw

Hnnnggggggggggggg

Whoever had that place in the 70s must have been ballin' out. Parts of that look really inviting, and yet other parts of it would give me real pause.

The wife and I are househunting and the "Real estate edit" is such a true thing.

I grew up in a house with a vintage 1968 Nu-tone intercom. That photo shoot is giving me flashbacks.
Same, although the one in my house was from 1963, and still tube-driven. The sound of the radio hiss fading in as the tubes warmed up was the warning signal that my mom was about to use it to tell me to get up and come downstairs to do whatever chores she had in mind, because she couldn't be bothered to come upstairs if she could avoid it...

There's many downsides for sure, but given some proper capital that place could accomodate a lot of different layouts/needs/visions.

Yeah those bedrooms were a bit scary but speaking from experience the key difference I'd make is those rooms were simply used and not abused -- rip the carpets out and paint the walls white ASAP and you're already 50% recovered from the backrooms vibes. And when the main areas were in such stellar shape, it became easy to see those were the exception and not the rule.

I still want it, and it's under a million! https://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/...5-brand-street-turkey-hill-arlington-ma-02474
