DCAMM has designated Boston Communities to redevelop a 5.05-acre surplus parking lot at 210 Springs Road in Bedford. The parking lot is situated on a scenic road in Bedford which has easy access to recreational amenities including the Narrow-Gauge Rail Trail, Fawn Lake trails, and the Wilderness Park.

The development proposed by Boston Communities includes a total of 25 duplex style ownership homes. The development will include 5 deed-restricted affordable units: 3 units at 80% Area Median Income (AMI) and 2 units at 120% AMI. The future development will maintain also some level of publicly available parking spaces and retain access to the nearby trails.”

I believe that lot was the VA's at one point in time but MCC has operated it for years now. All the time I worked at the hospital I never saw it used, so it's great to see this happening.

That traffic by the fire station is no joke.

Without trying to dox myself, I live half a block away and 95% of the time my drives involve going through that intersection. Also I walk my dog there all the time and they just took the sidewalks on all four corners away 🫡

Fleshing out this thread... not that Bedford is at the "HE'S ON FIRE!!!" construction status of Lexington, but things have visibly ticked up a notch or two in the last couple years. Here's some pics from today.

Four condos where there used to be one house

And nine units added onto this 1830 home

These all fall within and are in direct response to MBTA Communities, which is very encouraging to see. There was next to zero construction happening in my first few years here, 2021-23, so by comparison this is absolutely gangbusters.
