Portland International Jetport | PWM

Is the plan still to replace baggage claim carousels 1-3 due to the design flaws of baggage getting jammed when loading ?, The State of Maine museum should offer an exhibit or have LL Bean build one? How about the Gulf of Maine Research Institute build one , The lower area needs some attention... aka old check in area.. or is that area going to be mostly FIS when it gets built in the next century.. LOL

I guess it's a step up from a stuffed moose
The wildlife exhibit will remain and be moved a little further west near the corner.

Yes, new inline carousels will be installed.

A schematic of where (near the disabled escalator) and what the lower level portion of the future FIS facility will look like. The former Delta ticket counter would be where the "future escalator" will be eventually located. Plans are to still move forward with the project during the current century. :)

Planning probably hasn’t gotten this far yet, but I hope the barrier between the FIS facility and the “open to public” area is glass instead of a wall. That hallway needs any upgrade to its aesthetic it can get!

At last check, the lower level will be a more secure and self contained office environment but the upper level concourse set up will feature sliding glass partitions that can be switched from domestic to international usage on demand.

So the intent is that International gets its own baggage carousel? Cool, but it doesn't look like there's much waiting area there.

And, the turns out of the jetways into the corridor look really tight. That could be awkward for wheelchair users. I realize the Jetport only has so much room to work with, of course.

I just noticed: while the direct LAX-PWM connection seems to have been dropped for now, the direct flights to SFO are bookable at least through this upcoming weekend! (I didn't search past that.) I wasn't as surprised that they continued them through this past week, because Dreamforce was happening in San Francisco, but still going into October impresses me! Hopefully both will return next year.

Conveniently placed on Stevens Ave to get the families to and from school + UNE traffic. Breeze continues to slowly but surely invest in their Portland Maine market.

Today (statistically the slowest of travel days during the week) Breeze operates 5 flights out of the Jetport.
685 seats
136 empty
80% full
For a gloomy Wednesday, this is solid. Weekend numbers continue to be 90%+. These flights are going to CMH, TPA, RDU, CHS, and MCO respectively.

Its nice to see Breeze advertise, I would like to see Breeze go to Vero, FLL, and PBI direct.
Could Breeze add a base of ops here at PWM?
On another note, what's up with the Metro buses parked near the circle n SOPO?

They’ve got the same ads up in a few other places around the City. I’ve never seen an airline target our market with physical ads like this

PWM is one of Breeze’s largest non-base stations, and I think a crew base could be a possibility. However, as Breeze grows, they’re going to set their sights on larger markets.

They have always talked about doing transatlantic flights--they can reach a ton of Western Europe with an A220 and the runway is more than long enough...

Would love to see Breeze fly to San Diego. They already do Providence and Hartford to SD.

Just noticed this. The mural image of the skyline on the wall is "squashed." Perhaps time for an update?

When the baggage claim area is redone, maybe a new picture would be redone. Only problem is the picture is going to change dramatically over the next 5 years, if all the development proposed is built..

Hopefully! The picture is already super old--I was looking at this pic waiting for my bags a week ago and it doesn't appear to have the Intermed building, which is at least 10 years old.

"Portland Public Market" signage is intact on the garage... that lasted for quite a while after the market closed IIRC, but it also looks like the big red "EASTLAND" sign isn't in place yet.

The earliest GSV from 2007 has the AAA building in place, and the letters on the garage, but both Intermed and the apartments along Marginal Way are under construction. In the 2009 pic, the letters are gone and both buildings are finished. So the pic is from earlier than 2009.

Peoples United Bank acquired Maine Bank & Trust on 1-1-2009 so everyone's estimates are pretty close.
