New Red and Orange Line Cars

I feel like perhaps the best case outcome at this point would be for the State to just allow CRRC to complete the rest of the Red Line, at least, in China and ship fully completed cars (AFAIK, the MBTA has not received many of the Red Line shells past the initial set they have). This in theory...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

GLX also included the new rolling stock acquisition and brand new maintenance facility. I'd also point out that while it is a surface route, the GLX row had to also maintain an active railway at the same time which does add a bit of complexity. Honestly have no idea of the crossrail numbers...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

T has already done that to the OL. This would be more like putting the poor thing out of its misery.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

New estimate of 2027 for the full rollout. Looks like CRRC is also trying to get up to $35m more due to Trump's tariffs that increased costs. T is looking into exercising the contractual $500 a day penalty for late vehicles. An I missing something on that, though? That's like like $180k a year...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I was replying to: Zoning isn't going to do that, and Harvard already has proposals and will almost certainly get their way on what they want to build. I guess the city could creating entirely new zoning that banned Assembly or University Park “Transit Oriented Development” and allowed only...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

I always figured the base line was off of the rated track speed with a fudge factor/train traffic layered on top and compared to the actual times seen.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Yeah, MassDOT is moving the highway and making the street grid, but Harvard owns the land and will determine what gets built - neither of which is the city. I was replying to the person who said the city should dictate what was going to be built here which isn't possible.

    MBTA Bus & BRT

I mean it's 1,121 vs 1,200 buses, and the total number of buses doesn't tell the story as the MBTA today also has some buses with higher capacity than in 1972. Also in 1972, you don't have the rerouted OL out to Malden (I guess I'd call the OL into the NEC a wash), nor do you have the Red from...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The city doesn't own the land being redeveloped, Harvard does.

    60 Kilmarnock St | Fenway

Same with the Treadmark by Ashmont Station (although that wasn't arson). Almost fully built and days away from the fire suppression system from being turned on and up like a box of matches. Certainly made my commute home that day rather interesting.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Well replacing the new 1400s and 1900s, baring some catastrophic collapse in the contract or long term issues would be 20-40 years in the future, so who knows if CRRC will even be around then, or what it would have morphed into - same with the MBTA.

Is that the corner parcel melting building ? If so fully agree.

    Wow, that's amateur hour.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I'd assume they were referring to the building in the photo that is gone, which I think is kitty-corner to the upper left of the lot you circled (MR6? next to the piano)? Could be not reading the photo right, though.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I will say they did choose the most flattering angles for the State Street and SS towers. Especially on State Street, just rotate that a bit and the massing become quite a bit less slender as the picture implies.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

A good question. I haven't seen updated info in awhile, but pre-pandemic the Commuter rail had by far the highest per ride subsidy of all modes (excluding The Ride). Latest I can quickly find: https://commonwealthmagazine.org/transportation/t-subsidy-confusion/ Which I think, if it still holds...

    Parcel 12 | 1001 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Can't wait to see the finished product on this and Parcel 7. We should do a poll as to which one turns out to be the best of the air rights (although that might not be fair with Parcel 7 housing the Eastern Standard part 2).

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Yeah, bit of research on it with this patch article. So it sounds like a combination of generational and also other neighborhoods using it? Which might make sense to me, as I picked it up in Latin where the other Westie kids and those from other neighborhoods used it. Friend circle outside of...

Really? Grew up on the Rozzie border and Westie was quite common, especially at Latin.

I thought that was DoTo and FiDi along with BaBa (or as real locals know as just the' bay).
