This development is all about density and infrastructure design. This area needs to be livable! Nice wide sidewalks, planted trees, benches.....hopefully some public areas that don't become homeless magnets. I have high hopes for this.....this is lining up to become the battle of Bayside vs...

I hate to see new development mucked up but in this case.....maybe a good thing? The developer should be able to get this right because this is the high rent district. No cheaping out excuses.....design something great that is suitable for the location but at the same times maximizes returns...

This thing has become a complete cluster****. We can only hope that things turn out "OK" but I don't have a lot of confidence that the remaining premier waterfront location in Portland is going to get its due. So sad if that happens. There are bits and pieces of this that are decent but there...

They don't care what they look like because they are built to house poor people......let's call a spade a spade.

Come on......colors.....cheap materials.....there are choices.

It doesn't need to be....a box can be beautiful.....or it can be hideous.

That's pretty stupid not to allow the signage to become smaller.....only in Maine. Should have been black background with gold/beige lettering to match building color.

Just think how many more of those views there could have been if they had built more floors!

I really like the brick color used.....it blends in so much better than the "red" brick.

I'm calling that one....."Lines And Clouds".....it's a masterpiece!

Great post Desert. It's frustrating to see the State of Maine go kicking and screaming into the future. As you stated, the City of Portland is going to grow.....with to without planning. Portland needs to protect the things that people love about it while acknowledging that it needs to...

I think that this project is correcting a lot of stuff created by additions and expansions over the years that were done with no consideration of overall appearance, accessibility and efficiency. In a sense...LL Bean's Freeport campus is a microcosm of the entire State of Maine.

I don't think that the color blocking in the original was bad....and they are still the same colors (they would have had blue and purple as well for a true "rainbow"). What I like about the newer design is the punch outs creating a more interesting and inviting building rather than another box...

They mention near the Bangor Mall or the airport.....unless it IS the Bangor Mall (a ghost town)....the best spot for a development like this would be Bass Park (Bangor State Fairgrounds).

The Public Market would have been great down on the waterfront where bland lifeless buildings now reside.

Especially here in Maine.
