    Biking in Boston

Good point - A no-brainer way for Boston to take this on is for their public works folks to look at their repaving schedule and then have the bike planners work in tandem with that so that the city can design and stripe bike lanes when they repave. If the city has a strategic bike lane plan...

    Biking in Boston

Absent from this editorial's argument re: bike infrastructure is its quality and connectivity, both of which are much stronger in Cambridge given their policies and plans there. The density of that higher-quality network is much greater, too, which certainly impacts the cycling rates. Boston's...

Sounds like they're expecting to finally finish this project by winter based on the city's September construction update.

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

It unfortunately doesn't look like the Blackstone River Greenway was included on the state's recently released priority trail map (supposed to guide state investments in where to build out trails): https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/75ad0564b18f48f5973657d65d2a775d/page/Page/ Has there...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Idk, y'all - bus lanes aren't rocket science - overwhelming majority of the times you prioritize transit on roadways, it results in better conditions for providing service. Not gonna fix everything, but it's a no-brainer start. Still don't understand why so many of the pols around here favor so...

FWIW this council vote failed, so it's not moving forward - the bus & bike lanes stay.

    Biking in Boston

Hampshire St protected bike lanes between Broadway and Inman Square in Cambridge are taking shape: https://urbanists.social/@StreetsblogMASS/110969857575229313 During rush hour, the majority of road users are often on bike. Hopefully that increases with the Inman Square project nearly done and...

"'In the first 10 days of August, we have seen [a] 129% increase in the applications for bus operators.'" Hopefully this trend continues: https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2023/08/14/mbta-sees-bump-in-bus-driver-applications-following-new-contract/?p1=hp_featurestack

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I think the issue with the angle of the article is also assuming that public meetings are the "most important" form of engagement? If the city has also talked with hundreds of bus riders outside of public meetings, isn't that also good? Isn't all that feedback legitimate?

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Included in the FY24 budget that Healey signed today: Mayor Wu's sought-after seat on the MBTA board of directors - hopefully this means there will be more of an urban-centered and growth-oriented focus on the board in the years to come...

    Everett Infill and Small Developments

Looks like a great development - like the pairing of apartment building with townhomes. The finishings on the townhomes is especially nice; would love to see this kind of development replicated in every muni in metro Boston.

Likely not enough solar exposure, which is what the E-ink signs need since they're solar-powered (this image taken from the MBTA's webpage on this program).

    Biking in Boston

The mayor announced 9 miles of bike lanes end of last year and there's been a lot of open houses and community walks for them but it sounds like they've been getting the same-old bikelash from Boston NIMBY's. They put in South Huntington earlier this spring, but hopefully the rest of them get...

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

Been very excited to see that Priority Trail Network - it really does now feel like MassTrails is being more proactive from a program standpoint. SB Mass had a nice piece out last week on MCRT and BFRT construction progress - it gave me a bit of hope especially now that the Somerville Community...

Lighter materials for the building siding and some architectural rhythm in the facade go a long way.

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

This is embarrassingly bad road design for an dense area near a major rapid transit station and a regional park system. Thank goodness MassDOT rarely follows up and implements the studies they publish.
