    Boston Harbor Flood Protection Projects

I think it’s time top officials at least start floating the idea of a full harbor barrier

    Freeport Village Center

Not one mention of the actual Freeport station in that article. They also seem to blame it being somewhat empty on the fact that it’s set back from Main st… I find that a little hard to believe. I think the new owners should focus on bringing in some bars and restaurants in addition to locally...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Beautiful work, as always! Quick question: with the revival of the A branch, is the 57 necessary? I could see a short-turned bus pinging between Watertown and Oak Sq (if the A terminates at Oak), but would it really be necessary to have a surface transitway on Comm for it? Not saying it's a bad...

I’ve also experienced this, but usually from Blandford to Harvard Ave

Once in a while the Downeaster takes a detour along the haverhill/reading line instead of crossing over to the Lowell line on the wildcat branch. I’m not sure why the train you’re referring to was detouring, but it’s usually because of scheduled track work that creates constraints for the T...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I think you're assuming that the BL Charles crossing would need to remain on the same alignment as the Longfellow. There's plenty of room to the north of Charles/MGH to hypothetically build an incline to the required depth to get under the river and one that also ties into the BL station there...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Do you think that tips the scales for a blue line extension westward via Cambridge over Kenmore? Or do you think an urban ring-regional rail connection at Sullivan could pick up a lot of Cambridge-bound traffic from the north side? Maybe even with an additional UR-RR connection at east Somerville

    Fantasy T maps

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/01/31/metro/mbta-stop-names-bpl/?p1=BGSearch_Overlay_Results Some witty names on here. Seriously, though, they renamed Magoun Square to Winter Hill, shouldn’t Gilman Square get that name? Anyways, I think that would be a great name change for Gilman. FWIW...

WFO/WFH Trends among aB community in 2024

Yes, I agree, the demographics on this board certainly don’t reflect the actual demographics of Boston

My bad, I misunderstood what you were saying reading it as the opposite of what you meant. Thanks for the clarification, although just because people on the board don’t specifically say what they do doesn’t mean they don’t work/learn in a field that requires you to be in-person.

Another great question is how many people commuted by transit pre covid but choose to drive in now? A lot of people in my office who live further out in the suburbs used to always take the commuter rail in. Now they drive 1-2 days a week and swallow the parking fees. It makes sense because...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I swear it’s purely coincidence I mentioned the EL on Rt 1 in the other thread and you’re showing a line along the same route here ;). I’ve always imagined your red line diverting from Rt 1 briefly along Everett Ave to a large, consolidated Chelsea Sta. at Mystic Mall. I think that‘s prime land...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

I’ve always thought route 1 north of Boston is a good candidate for an El (post Tobin replacement). It pretty much parallels the 111 and there’s a pretty large, underserved population past it in Revere (although the cemeteries to the west put a big dent in the catchment area)

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

Red/Blue has veered way off topic; this will be a good place to continue discussing the merits of this extension and extensions beyond AH.

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Wouldn't you have to build a shallow tunnel from Alewife to Arlington Center, though? Similar construction to the Davis-Alewife stretch.

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

I think it's important to point out that the destination isn't Lexington itself, but instead Route 128 in Lexington. With Route 3 terminating nearby and the huge potential for TOD also nearby at the Burlington Mall/Hartwell Ave, the ridership potential far outweighs Lex on its own. Plus, as...
