Idea for fixing the housing shortage

Good article today on the national crunch on housing development caused by NIMBYism, and its new, growing opposite dynamic, YIMBYism.

    Proposed watertown ferry

Would this thing break through the ice in the winter? I see this ending up being a pleasure excursion/tourist boat in the summer, but that's it.

That's it! Pomo is the look. I especially hate the corner wrap-around windows, the flat black windows all over the building' and the white plastic looking framing.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Greenfield is very different than New Bedford and Fall River, and has very different potential. Greenfield is a lot smaller (about 1/18 the population of New Bedford), is a much nicer town in the sense that it's not a large ex-industrial town, and it's overall a prettier, more picturesque town...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

It would be such a great thing for Greenfield to have direct rail to Boston. My dad's side of the family goes back to the late 1700s in the Greenfield area, and I love it there, but Greenfield needs the economic boost that a rail link to Boston would provide.

Jefferson Park is where I grew up. We moved there in 1954, and left in 1966. I remember before we moved in, walking into Jefferson Park from Rindge Ave with my mother and my Irish grandmother, when I was 4 years old. Seems like yesterday.

I have to say, that is an ugly building (in my opinion of course).

The Cambridge Crossing development placed multi-story residential very close to the GL viaduct. I think it's great.

Massive $$$$, and politically It wouldn't have much traction because the surface route along the LRV line is doable and a lot cheaper.

Probably because the traffic engineers determined it would back up traffic too much at the intersection with Western Ave. and Arsenal St.

    Red Line Extension to Mattapan

The MBTA had every intention to build it in the mid 1960s, but reneged on it due to noise concerns of heavy rail cars raised by Carney Hospital. That indicates to me that constructing the line itself is physically doable. And why wouldn't it be? There's adequate room to fit in the grade...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

With the long approaches needed for a fixed span rail bridge, a two track tunnel looks more justifiable. The canal is about 35 feet deep, so digging a trench on the canal bottom with prefab tunnel boat sections lowered into it, and cut-and-cover tunnel approaches on dry land might be doable...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I'm guessing the road bridge grades over the Cape Cod Canal might be too steep for rail, but that would need to be verified. My vote would be to just build a high level fixed span rail bridge. The approaches would be long to accommodate rail grade maximums, but c'est la vie.
