    Most Disliked Buildings

^ Yes. Various heights of this same, horrible, apartment building you see repeated all over the outlaying neighborhoods. (At least the last two have balconies, I guess.) Amazingly, they all have the same stale smell -- I used to do deliveries, I know. The first two I had friends who lived in...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I take that since you called it the "Metro" you've never actually ridden NYC's Subway, but it is definitely NOT, in any way, cleaner than the T. (Boston, in general, is vastly more clean than most cities, especially NYC.) Their accessibility is also abysmal (both elevators and automated stop...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

The other issue with these is already cropping up, indoors: glare. In the bright sun you're not going to be able to read them at all. Hence why NYC (and the Ts on board announcement and exterior destination signs) use LEDs, they are bright enough to cut through most anything.

If they wanted a hammer beam truss then why didn't they just build a hammer beam truss. It's not like there isn't a fantastic timber framing school less than a mile away.

    The New Retail Thread

Walked by at 3, they had a line all the way into the center court with a bouncer letting people in. Just walked by now, (9:00) short line but still a bouncer and packed inside. Looks like you're straight ip not allowed to go in through the boylston entrance, have to go through the mall.

    The New Retail Thread

I made the mistake of cutting through yeaterday. What a flustercuck. It makes a supermarket before thanksgiving look downright civil. The egress aisles are WAY too small, I felt like I was trying to get from one end of a rush hour T station to the other

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Assembly needs to stop being looked at as a mall, and more like the Back Bay of the 21st century. Because that's exactly.what.it.is. A new downtown for Somerville is literally being built on marshlands. The condos at Alloy are listing at what, 800k? This isn't some fluke, it's literally a new...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

I live in the AVA, over half of the cars in my garage sit there collecting dust, until holidays or the summer. Stone haven't moved in months. More than any other neighborhood I can think of, Assembly is an island. No overnight parking in the lots and meters during the day means that if you...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Some crappy cell phone pics from a few minutes ago: ^They're using real masons laying real brick on the low-rise portion. It makes a big aesthetic difference in a positive way. There's a little bit of brownstone used at the very base of the brickwork, too. (You can see it better in...

    Road Construction

Unbelievably so. Our roads are downright embarrassing, and our public transit is a travesty compared to what they have going on.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I took it as them citing the towers as examples of buildings that may continue to be built to the detriment of the historic fabric of the ladder district, not them saying that those towers themselves are an issue. For example, tearing down the Payless building to replace it with a tower, or...

General Electric HQ (Necco Buildings Reno) | 5 Necco Street | Fort Point

Re: General Electric HQ | 244-284 A Street | Fort Point That much is pretty obvious... I've spent some time googling how to fly a plane and have walked around airports, so I should be able to pilot a jet, no? Or are you just knocking an entire industry because you can't wrap your mind around a...

    Traditional Masonary

This is somewhat tangent to my thesis I've begun working on, but the argument is that traditional, load bearing masonry can be cost competitive with modern systems even now, when the entire cost is factored in. I'm thinking in an urban context this could do a lot to offset the abysmal quality of...

Quabbin & MWRA Water & Sewer

Didn't later tests show the untreated reserve water during the water main break wound up being cleaner than what was coming out of the Quabbin?
