Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Steel is going up on the retail portion. Still working on the footings for the tower, about halfway done with the garage. The park between Partners and I rest of the Row is coming together. I assume they want it done when Partners opens. (Sorry for the shitty cell-phone zoom.)

    Somerville Infill and Small Developments

I attended CJ Hooker middle school in Goshen, NY while it underwent a complete renovation and expansion. Similar issues to the Somerville High building: everything was outdated, broken, and leaked, not enough space for anything (we had art class in an old bus garage), ad-hoc tech upgrades, etc...

    Redesigning Prudential Tower

I keep saying this a million times. Polish the aluminum mullions, replace the energy-crisis mirrored glass with clear glass, and repaint/replace the teal panels. Basically just clean the tower. It would look fabulous, and is one of the best examples of its time period.

    Biking in Boston

From both biking and driving in this area: Beacon St should loose it's parking in this stretch. It's straight up dangerous; between the hill and curve you can come upon a stopped/reversing car at decent speed with barley any time to react. A cycle track would be a far safer use of space...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I'm not a fan of the cantilevers either, it makes it look like the tall, slender cousin of the pregnant building. Related to the streetscape, I give you an unapologetically bad photoshop. The perspective is off a bit and I'm pretty sure the scale is too, but you get the idea: Obviously you'd...

    20 is plenty

My thought was they are going for 20 because of the common 5 over interpretation. And even though I drive like a bat out of hell on highways, I still keep to 25 on most residential and downtown streets. 30 (and therefore 35) is way too fast.

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

This is the most asenine thing I've ever read. Having the system maps and wayfinding sinage accurate is part of fixing the T. Leaving up a sign that says something is closed when it isn't is basically defered maintenance. As for the announcements... they've been announcing government center...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

5b is where the beer garden is, which is staying for now. 5a is where they are putting the hotel/condos that just started driving sheet piles. Block 6 is where they are putting the tall tower and parking garage I've been posting pictures of, across Canal St from AVA closest to the main Orange...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

The building's not bad, this was just a superior street interaction: This is not to say both levels of the plaza, stairs, the side of the Hynes, and the food court didn't need a complete overhaul. They did. But some sort of winter garden on the upper level allowing all season access to the...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I've been saying this for years. There's easially two generations of continuous expansion that needs to be done, not to mention reconstruction. The T should be a continuously expanding entiity, until it's service saturation is as dense as downtown. Expansions should be as constant as operations...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Late to this party. The large issue with going Tremont > Essex is that it doesn't hit the Back Bay without a transfer. Ideally you'd want trains from the north and the west to get to the Transitway.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Just as a correction in modern terms, these are jusy regular recessed balconies, not Juliette's. A Juliet (or Balconet) has no space you can walk out onto, it's just a door with a railing in front.

    🔷 Open Thread

I read a great article a while ago (probably in the Atlantic) that I can't find now. I'm going to do a terrible job paraphrasing, but essentially its argument was that unions were once a great good for this country. They allowed workers to rise against oppressionist robber-barons, unsafe and...

Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett I live in Assembly. The traffic isn't any worse then the rest of the city. Way better than downtown, about the same as when I lived in Allston. See also: living in a city.
