New Red and Orange Line Cars

Restarting the procurement would probably cost more than the tariff itself. And who knows, maybe a deal can be cut with the GOP for train imports, as long as someone gets paid the right money.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Ok, I called a politicans office last time we had a question like this.. I'm at work, but does someone want to take a turn and call the consituent line, and see if there's any support at the governor's office for guaranteed funding, or some such? Do the transit matters guys care? Maybe they'll...

Sorry if this is against the rules or the wrong thread, but it is worth having a discussion on what self-funding the MBTA would look like, and if we could do pull it off politically.

Definitely interesting, but the middle section with a bunch of back patting over some genuinely ugly buildings is odd.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I guess to elaborate more, this is how people in Ohio talk about us, people who live in triple deckers. Oh, it’s unlivable, how can anyone live this way? We do it fine. People do live in tall buildings. Lower Manhattan - 50k/sqmi LES - 87k/sqmi… if you new built homely triple deckers on this...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I’m confused how skyscrapers “cleave” a community apart. And why we would want 5 over 1s instead of that. Cities are made of buildings, including tall buildings. Tall buildings should not be scary. They are non animate. A tall building has never endangered me or scared me

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The meme version of this would be to send one of the branches straight to the airport via Seaport in a new harbor tunnel and one branch to Alewife via SS

https://archboston.com/community/threads/crazy-highway-pitches.5916/page-14#post-481195 They are doing a little bit on that overpass way over up the road, but not much on this road itself. I agree it needs to go.

Thornton's had 33 cent wings and 6 dollar margs on Thursdays. Hard to beat that price.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The proposal above is a breath of fresh air. It makes a lot of sense to me, and would heal some transit wounds in the region. I think people would probably oppose on equity terms... hard to give Seaport a 1-2mi tbm before you give it to someone else.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

What I still don't understand is why the decorative feature is so small compared to the total visible bridge span. All the renderings seem to be just of that center portion. It looks very dinky and cheap compared to the Zakim bridge.

Is there anything that can be renegotiated to make the development more feasible? More units?

Not sure if either of these are it.

I see this building relatively often, and I honestly thought it was incomplete. Hopefully the parking-garage heads at that development company are losing their shirts!

    Eliminate the River Roads?

Do we have a priority list of projects? Has anyone on this forum tried to rank the large capital project proposals based on what "should" be done first, cost, etc?

Here's my other pitch, two alts selected. This is about 1.5 miles. Run the tracks down the middle of the road, or off to the side. It's all low-traffic areas. Cuts like a hundred miles out of the equation. We used to run fregiht trains in the middle of the road in Boston. Way easier in the suburbs.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This is wishful thnking, but I can't help but think if we had a more functional civil engineering corps when it came to rail transit (or even in general) we would not have this problem. Random ideas that come to mind... 1) Temporary bridges. Probably the T can withstand 1-2 day long stretches...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Apologies if this has been brought up before -- I moved to a place where my closest stop is the Union Square green line stop. When I take the train outbound to there 2 out of the last 3 times the train has stopped short of the platform for about 10 minutes, presumably to wait for platform space...

    MBTA Construction Projects

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere yet, but we are seeing some organized opposition to this project. This is not the only screed that has been posted, either.
