General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Does the omission of Winchester Center from the May through October Lowell Line schedule signal that the station won’t open until the fall? Currently scheduled for Spring reopening and I don’t see anywhere where it says it’s been delayed.

Given your premise that three CR stops in one community is equivalent to hell, you must be in heaven that Winchester has only had one stop (vs two) for the past two years. 😂

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

They do rear door first car at West Medford outbound to get a six car set north of High St so it doesn’t block traffic during the dwell. But that’s only because the T can’t make any material improvements without triggering ADA. This Newtonville design is a crock. So dumb.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Any idea the extent of the Lowell Line tie replacement starting Monday? The updated schedule lists Patriot’s Day as the only holiday, so I’m inferring the work should be completed before Memorial Day.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

From the article, “On the northside, single-track segments on the Lowell and Haverhill lines also limit frequency…” I am unaware of any part of the Lowell Line being single tracked. Does he mean when the Haverhill line operates express on the Lowell Line via the Wildcat branch?

At Medford Tufts I’ve seen the conductor open a closed Type 7 train door from the outside via the key method you described. Guessing it’s a security thing.

Also remember that the 0.0 inches recorded is at Logan airport, the official measurement location for Boston. It’s always been a quirky spot to measure Boston weather since it’s on a peninsula in the ocean. This can and often does lead to material differences in the data measured there vs what...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

And they already have redundant elevators at the main entrance. So the ramp system isn’t enough. ADA then must has a similar access clause that requires an elevator with the significant elevation from the street to platform / # of ramp turnbacks (I think it’s six turnbacks which is a lot)...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

The same condition exists at Medford/Tufts station. The north platform contains an emergency ramp system leading up to street level. Given that there’s no fare control and it’s ADA compliant, I don’t understand why it’s not used as a second entrance. Would shave off a couple minutes to the...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I can report this morning Science Park to Lechmere definitely >10mph (guess would be 20-25mph) but Lechmere to Science Park still felt stuck at 10mph.

Ah yes I see that D closure now with service resuming 12/21

Observing multiple GL trolleys from Union Square turning back at Brattle Loop this afternoon. Super confused passengers departing and equally confused passengers being told to alight on the Brattle Loop track for Union Square service. Any idea what is going on?

Thanks for reminding us 🙄. We appreciate your feedback from not Boston.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The MBTA replaced all the track on the Lechmere Viaduct in June 2023 after the track “renewal” work conducted in 2021 was ineffective. There’s really no excuse why trains still run 10mph after they literally replaced the rails and any “settling” period has surely elapsed.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

No new slowdowns on GLX “eastbound” this afternoon from North Station to Ball Square from the condition prior to the “narrow tracks” announcement. Possibly a new one leaving Gilman Square about 300 ft at 3 MPH but nothing like what was reported last week.

Got it thanks. I know my written description was poor so glad you understood. Just seems weird how the non-revenue track continues as if it is supposed to go under the portal incline, almost like there is a garage underneath the incline or add’l storage. As a funny comment, maybe it’s meant as...

Medford, MA Infill and Small Developments

Yes very aware this was cut out of the GLX and hope sometime in the next 60 years we’ll see it extended to MVP. And by your logic, imagine how many developers could market their site as “along the BLX to Lynn.” 😂😂

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Took the GLX from Medford/Tufts in and out of Boston last week. A few observations: Doesn’t take long after Medford/Tufts for the train to be crowded. Usually by Magoun Square all the seats are taken and Gilman adds more load. This was the case even on Monday & Friday which both tend to be the...

Medford, MA Infill and Small Developments

I’m glad to see this site being marketed for development and we need more of this here in Medford. However, I take issue with the press release describing this site along the GLX. This is false as it is over 1/2 mile north of GLX along the Lowell Line, sited almost equidistant between...
