I bit the bullet and bought a ticket! This is going to be awesome

Yet another Virtual Public Hearing on the Charles F. Hurley Building

Yep. These two buildings are an exercise in minimizing floorplate area. That really speaks to the prevailing attitude at the time.

I’ve just started biking to work downtown. The view from the N. Washington bridge is completely transformed from just a few years ago. It’s spectacular and it shows just how much growth we can achieve without resorting to sprawl.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I agree with all of this. East Somerville is not a good choice for this station. Whatever associations people have with the name Brickbottom today, it would be completely redefined within a few years of the station opening. East Somerville is a well defined community centered on Broadway nearly...

HDR perhaps? It can make things look cartoonish.

Watertown Mall Redevelopment | 550 Arsenal Street | Watertown

I agree that Harvard is preferable for its destination draw, but Central is not a terrible consolation prize. Those Harvard-bound commuters will transfer to outbound RL trains in the morning, which are significantly emptied out after passing Kendall. And vice versa in the evening. A Harvard...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

So to be clear, the T is doing everything they legally can to maximize their air pollution?

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

That amount of soot is disturbing. That building went up in 1995. It's not like it goes back to the steam era. Can we make a real effort at electrification, please?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I suppose a better approach would be for the inspector to have a gun and shoot the scofflaw dead, right there on the train?

    Nuba ( Parcel 8) | 429 Melnea Cass Blvd | Nubian Sq | Roxbury

I like the small format retail arcade. I can think of 100 better places to put it than M Cass, but it’s the kind of thing I wish we saw in the Seaport or North Station. Everywhere really.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Looking more at the new spider map, I see they fixed one of my pet peeves: the bizarre wide, sweeping curve in the green line between Haymarket and North Station. It’s been replaced with two 45 degree turns so that the green and orange run parallel for that segment. Looks much better IMO.

Infrastructure for Personal Electric Vehicles (non-autonomous) in Boston

Whatever happened to the battery swapping concept? Is that still a thing? Seems like swapping batteries at a service station is a good solution for urban drivers. It is something you can imagine doing in the range of 10 minutes or less. I recall Musk putting on some demo years ago where is it...

    Federal Government - 2021

Good riddance. I am not a fan of Pollack, at least not what she has (failed to) achieve at MassDOT.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Kendall would be better than Central. Tack on Lechmere and Sullivan for extra credit. But that idea works well as BRT-ish. It certainly doesn’t need to be HRT. There have been lots of ideas in this and other threads over the years including branches off of the Mass Ave BRT spine (e.g. to Kenmore...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t understand this E line to Seaport at all. It connects Huntington subway to Seaport and has a transfer with the D line, but that’s it. So from Seaport it’s 2 seats to the central subway and 3 seats to Kenmore. Same as today. Why bother tying it into the GL...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I’m presently riding in a new RL train for the first time. I’ve been in the new OL cars many times, so no big surprises, but I have to say the interior dimensions feel just a tad larger than the old ones. A little extra (much needed) elbow room for when the commuter crush gets back to normal.
