General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Does anyone know when the red-shirts contract is up for renewal? Also glad to see DiZoglio auditing the T. The primary reason I supported Chris Dempsey for Auditor was his promise to do the same.

At the very least they could turn trains at East Somerville though right? There is a crossover and a pocket track past the station. Then shuttles would just need to run down McGrath.

North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

Looks like the new North Station bridges will get a pedestrian path after all. https://x.com/dannickx/status/1806332044227555537

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Yes, given that the state has yet to outline funding for the project a rational MassDOT would cut lanes to reduce cost. Until full funding is secured I don't think it's unreasonable to push for lane reductions to reduce cost.

Missing the lanes in East Somerville on Broadway from McGrath to Minnesota Ave, just added last year.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

What is the acreage of CX compared to Assembly? They feel about the same, but CX is so much better designed (albeit I’m sure it’s smaller).

How are you getting updates on retail openings? I think CX will finally reach its potential once those small retail spaces along the path across from REI are open. However, I never see any progress in the ground floor retail.

They’ve been there but they were never painted red, so I guess they’re announcing they finally found some red paint?

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

During the July Red Line diversion, the Fitchburg line is adding a Porter Shuttle so that NS > Porter gets half-hour headways. I don't recall them doing something like this before, but with this and the recent "Lucky Express" for the Celtics game during the OL diversion it seems the Commuter...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

What sway does he have if the Governor and legislature don’t openly endorse it? I think using the bully pulpit of a House Rep to bring attention and pressure to get the state behind it is the best that he can do. It would be better if he, Markey, Warren, and others were openly calling out the...

It’s also a vertical lift bridge, so if someone gets stuck on it they just get a scenic elevator ride. People pay good money for that at the Prudential Center’s View Boston experience 🤷‍♂️

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

These bus lanes have so little compliance they are essentially general travel lanes which is why they aren't contributing to any time savings.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

I’m surprised Cambridge still requires parking close to transit, Somerville has no residential parking minimum within a half mile of transit.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

This is seemingly going to lock them into not using EMU flats for electrification right? I’m sure they’ll argue they have all these bi-levels so they have to get a battery electric locomotive for them. I can’t stand how old feeling and uncomfortable the “new” bi-levels are.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Are there systems that do this? I would assume batch processing of transactions would create loopholes where you could use a prepaid debit card with 0$ value on it and the transaction wouldn’t fail until the end of the day, giving unlimited free rides.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I agree that’s what we should do, but Stick n move fixed it after the fact. The original comment was a copy of the full article, which I think is fine if there’s a paywall but otherwise not ideal.

I don’t really know what the forum sentiment is but I think it would be better to just link non-paywalled articles instead of copying and pasting them. I’m sure Streetsblog could use the clicks/revenue.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Someone asked Eng about this in the most recent Ask the GM and he pretty much gave no answer from what I recall. I also tried to ask him about bus electrification and why we are prioritizing BEBs at the expense of our trolleybus network and he pretty much gave no answer there as well. I...

    The New Retail Thread

I’ve been to Swingers in NYC and it is much better than Puttshack. Puttshack relies heavily on the novelty of alcohol and electronic score tracking to make up for the extremely basic and repetitive courses. Swingers had more unique holes that would be competitive with something like Kimballs...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Healey administration plans to freeze state hiring I would hope the administration has the foresight to not include the MBTA in this freeze, but I haven’t found any indication that the T is exempt in the coverage so far.
