Middle East Nightclub Redevelopment | 468-480 Mass Ave / 6 Brookline St. | Cambridge

So much potential for cool spaces around here... just not downtown. I can think of at least three spaces along the Harbor or Chelsea River that would be ideal for a throwdown! Oooh! And a local band that grew out of that could call themselves The 111s... the One Elevens... like the Chelsea...

I think it was the great Carlton "Carl" Carlson who said it best... I don't want to sound my age so I will not complain about the bars "back in my day". Mature me thinks there weren't many holdovers from the previous 40 years into the great bar/venue pool of my era. People in the Roaring 20s...

    Biking in Boston

Good one! This whole area is chaos. Last time I was biking down there I was particularly looking at how the Jackson Square - Ritchie - Marcella - Washington route is a high use car cut-through with obscured corners and very few bike alternatives nearby. Nothing safe about it.

Yep. Kind of an oversight not to talk about how much cash is going/has gone in to LaGuardia recently. And he should have updated it after the last transportation booster bill was signed. I do agree with him about boosting fuel taxes, but I really do not want every US airport to become a massive...

On the airport topic... what do you all make of this? ...and we'll have to forgive his pronunciation of LaGuardia

    "Dirty Old Boston"

If we're splitting hairs, yes. I realize it was done by the Central Artery North Area (CANA) project under MDPW, as the Big Dig was starting. So Massachusetts paid for that bit at first. Then got a little help. It's like consolidating your first year student loans into one big consolidated loan...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Ooooh! Nice find. A pic of the rare Pre-93 Tobin connector in its natural habitat. You can even see the pre-Y attachments on the upper and lower decks! So many lessons to learn here. This is why Rutherford Ave was built up at the time and why it remains as a vestigial overbuild awaiting a road...

Massport is especially wrong to accept our collective civic perma-poverty paradigm. They have independent budgets and operations and could have led this... but instead we get more damned band-aid busses. I tire of interagency territorialism making true intermodal operations merely a dream. We...

First - Vanshnookenraggen. I have much respect for you, your abilities and I've always loved your maps and the finds. Never, never, never stop posting. Second - we're not always going to agree, but I will always listen Third - Insulting the inanimate Hurley is not an insult to you. I just really...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

The compromise is building around it and covering up this mistake as much as possible. I do not want to keep it purely as a 1000 foot square monument to hubris. I'm not a pure lover or hater of brutalism. I just know a building shouldn't hurt you when you lean on it, or accidently walk to...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I’m thinking there wasn’t much foresight about a future state then. By the way they located the HVAC and power sheds around the Airport T stop and how little space was allocated for any sort of tram system it means we’re going to have to do a little property acquisition.

North End Cross Street Boutique Hotel | 42 Cross Street | North End

The density of the North End is what makes it what it is. There is nothing architecturally signifigant - save for three or four +200 year old buildings - that are worth fighting over. The rest of it was built really quickly around 1900 by and for cheap immigrant labor... like very other East...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

I want to add that I was at the meeting 15 or so years ago where the Boston Museum Project was proposed for Parcel 12 on the Greenway (the big, insanely cool glass ark proposal). Moshe Safdie was at the Marriott Long Wharf Meeting hall - in person - to explain his design to the locals. As you...

Love the Hall of Firsts! I would like that to be our city identity more than anything else. Beyond a ton of other firsts (Similac, anesthesia, fire alarm boxes, robotic surgery, atomic photography, immunization advances, data acceleration, the Middlesex Canal, to name a few), we solidly rocked...
