Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Looks like the T is trying to get MAAB variance for a section of sidewalk on Medford St, near the Gilman Square substation. It was rebuilt by the contractor as part of the project, but it doesn’t meet the standards for accessibility. City Council is discussing it tonight.

Payback for saddling the T with Big Dig debt? T: “That’s a nice little highway project you’ve got there… It would be a shame if something happened to it.” DOT: “What can be done?” T: “Build the south side maintenance facility.”

It’s located between the 62 and 76 routes, and the Rev and Lexpress are nearby. Walking distance to Stop & Shop and Walgreens. There is a very tenuous case to be made for TOD-style parking restrictions, assuming residents were working in the city. It’s shame there wasn’t a convenient Red Line...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

I think it would only work if there were a maximum lot size and some regulation around building height, to ensure variation within and across blocks. For the height it would be something along the lines of “building may be between X-Y heights, with no two adjacent buildings being the same...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The T management is probably eyeing the calendar to see exactly how many days until they can scrap the Type 8 albatrosses.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I had to double check my photos to make sure that the Type 8 involved in the derailment wasn’t the one used on last weekend’s BSRA fan trip. That would have been a cruel irony.
