New Red and Orange Line Cars

New train 1401 is running this morning as well. No sign of a problem

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I haven't been around long enough to witness the last Lechmere bustitution, but that seems like a brutal trip for anyone connecting from downtown to a lechmere-hub bus. Especially with all the street congestion in the west end area. I'd think going red-to-kendall or central then hopping on a bus...

Thanks for clarifying, 4-doors for red, just like the current 1800's.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

The new tighter signal blocks won't be effect until the entire current rolling stock is retired. I don't think overall travel times will decrease much during off-peak periods, but peak travel times should improve from tighter headways, shorter dwells, wider 4-door boarding.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

If they need to restrict the number of passes in circulation can't they just start charging for them/charge higher rates on a yearly basis?

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

https://www.mbta.com/alerts/subway?alerts_timeframe=upcoming Didn't they literally replace floating slabs earlier this year? Update: here was the original work in March 2019 https://www.mbta.com/projects/red-line-floating-slab-maintenance/update/floating-slab-replacement-spring-2019

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Still some work to do on the 1 Bus corridor from Central Square to the Mass Ave bridge. Currently have short segments of southbound-only painted bus lanes and flex-post separated bike lanes. But parked cars are still taking full lanes in areas where the bus constantly gets stuck (near the Grand...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

This is gonna do some amazing things for RL congestion through the core without needing to choke through to get to Silver. Can this entire corridor ever be turned into NYC's 14th street for commercial vehicles/buses/bikes only? That way maybe they can drop the SL-transitway loop & SL2, and...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

The last transitmatters report found that by re-doing all the switches and giving dedicated platforms for each line they could increase increase track speed up to 30mph in the entire SS approach and effectively reduce the turnaround time by half and double the capacity.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

No electrification though, so some sort of modded DMU?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Is there any shared infrastructure that can be installed when the GLX wire is strung up over the tracks? I know that Fitchburg/Lowell aren't priorities for early electrification under RER/RUR and voltage is different from the 25k AC standard for EMU's...but can the four sets of wires at least...

Uber & Lyft as a source of congestion

Anyone notice any difference in the taxi-cab business? I'd think it'd be a great sell being able to get picked up/dropped off at the curb and being faster than waiting for the app-ride to match you up through the queue. Especially for late night arrivals, I'd happily pay a few $ extra to get...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

It's been mentioned on this thread a while back.. I believe the main issue is density around the 128 ring which is dominated by office parks and parking lots. Most riders would have last-mile problems on both ends of the trip.

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

But by the same argument, when a chemical plant opens up next to your home and suddenly no one wants to live there you have the right to charge above-market rents and make people pay for it.. I'm sure Sommerville is seeing all sorts of rent hikes from GLX and it's very much warranted. Having...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Sure, but the providence/worcester lines are taking thousands of cars off the road each rush hour and significantly improving congestion. 15 riders getting on at Foxboro is doing exactly nothing for improving congestion.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

glad we're spending money to rehabilitate tracks and stations to open a route that will lose the mbta money

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Is there any logistical problem with having the SL run first to the departure level for dropoffs, then arrival level for pickups (rather than doing both at the arrival level as it stands now)? Seems extremely logical to do this, other than needing maybe one or two more buses in the fleet to...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Same thing with the blue massport buses. Spends 5m at each stop to wait to fill up the bus, while the bus could've done an entire lap in that time.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Back to the red line.. glad the Alewife crossovers are getting taken care of, but what about the Harvard bend (and other points in this article? Can the track be banked at all to add a few mph? Hopefully the wider doors/shorter signal blocks can keep things nimble during rush hour.. but more...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Seeing 4-car sets of these run on the Riverside/Fairmount/Rt128 Urban Rail every 15m would be an absolute transit wet dream..
