Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I happen to have a Google alert set up for that exact question. Newest info I could find indicates "late" 2024, so expect something like an 11:50PM departure on 12/31/24. Not an obviously top tier site, but they reference an email they received directly from Amtrak after an inquiry. A spokesman...

10 World Trade | BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | Seaport

U Hub reporting the developers bought Silvertone's liquor license at-risk to entice a tenant to the restaurant space in 10 World Trade. $3M dedicated to buildout, so hopefully something will open here shortly after completion...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Yeah I agree we won't get inspectors, but the natural outcome with tap to pay at all the surface stations is that people will just skip payment. It's not a huge issue, as there are already a lot of fare hoppers on surface green line trains, so either we need faregates or just accept that...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

I generally agree, but this conflicts with mobile-based payment methods. Orca card serves as proof of payment as well as the mechanism to pay. If I tap my phone and a fare inspector comes to ask for proof of payment, am I going to have to go through my Apple Pay transactions and match up time of...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Cocktails in the $16-18 range, wines going up to double that on the top end. $42 steak frites, $2/oyster, $68 for a 10oz fillet. Pretty much in line with the other "nice" steakhouses downtown/Back Bay. https://www.vermilion-club.com/menus/

    The New Residential Conversion Thread

Love this building. There are some great gritty alleyways on this section around Broad, Franklin, Oliver etc. Happy to see a handsome brick building get a new life.

    MA Liquor Laws

No massive breakthroughs, but some activity here as we come up to the end of the legislative session: -More than 250 new licenses proposed, all of which will be restricted to specific zip codes. Requires a conference committee before a final vote and before going to Healey. Looks likely to...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Caught these guys undergoing testing yesterday on Track 61. 2 car trains look ridiculous

    General Boston Discussion

Looks like South Boston on East Broadway, near H St. Not sure what's going on, though. https://www.wcvb.com/article/boston-fire-east-broadway-july-27/61716232

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

My take is that it's a huge lot with tons of development potential. Why constrain what can be done with anything leftover? While urban renewal is bad, renewing the renewal is sweet comeuppance. Level the whole damn block and start anew.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Not directly related to MBTA, more of a contrast to the procurement process at MBTA and the disastrous CRRC experience, BART is getting TWENTY NEW CARS PER MONTH in their fleet replacement project with Alstom. I don't have the most recent stats for the MBTA Orange/Red orders, but I'm certain...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Yeah...got caught in it today. Various unofficial reports are saying someone jumped in front of a Red Line train at South Station.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Whether it's quad tracking, bridge rehab, straightening a few curves, or separate bypasses, even an 80mph average speed between NYC and BOS would put the trip under 3 hours each way and absolutely change things. With 150mph+ in RI and MA, it really isn't asking much for the Western CT and NYC...

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

Walked by yesterday and yes there’s a huge section roughly at the Mass Ave and Boylston intersection that’s been re-paved. Still some old sections but it’s much nicer in parts. No pic unfortunately.

Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

I know Camberville instinctively recoils over big new projects but this thing should win awards. The original courthouse was a monumental eyesore. A dystopian ziggurat that we’re lucky didn’t age in place for another generation.

    Wind Turbines in Mass

The ghost of Don Quixote nods approvingly from beyond the grave. Not good! Hope the delay isn’t too long.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

The open curtain wall on the lower section is slowly getting zipped up. Also some curtain wall on the residential section including what looks like doors to the terrace and an awning or shade structure over the future pool.

It should become a 450,000 sf SAV MOR liquor store

    MA Liquor Laws

See my post #14 above. Whatever you think of the merits, an equity and inclusion argument to unshackle Boston and the good immigrants of this state would a) be true and b) perhaps more likely to move some of our local pols to action. It’s straight up bigotry.
