Stick, I'm one of you biggest fans, and to me you're one of the MVP's of this site........... but this one is a bit deep in the weeds. Someone built a house. Not sure it's really newsworthy, but that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Gotta start somewhere. Can't build 20 at the same time. Pioneers are needed. I mean if that was a reason not to build them, nothing tall would ever be built. I appreciate these. Just like I appreciate that 121 Broadway MXD resi tower going up in Cambridge and that Union Square tower all...

.....so 319 residential units, 472 car parking spaces inthe garage and - judging by that overhead picture - an additional large surface car parking lot fronting it. Are they going to eliminate the surface lots?????

At least it breaks up the parade of blue glass behind the ICA.

Unfortunately, the economics of landscrapers trump those of multiple buildings broken up, even though the latter is far better urbanism. I wonder whether the old time Amsterdam property regime of taxing by width (which resulted in some very slim buildings) would be an antidote.

Please. 😏 The 845 proposed parking space additions and their placement at that spot on Route 9 are no less relevant re the "actual proposal" than your evident concern about what retail shops go in there. But, obviously, if this proposal height gets cut in half, most likely the retail square...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Yup. Electric shock, chemotherapy and amputations can save lives. Boston's gangrene could've slipped into Newarkhood. Those jarring things saved the city overall. I fully empathize, however, the terrible personal losses that occurred. The tragedy is that it got to that point where terrible...

Nice adjustment now from "ped-centric" to "win for urbanists". I have no idea where you got the idea I was AGAINST the proposal. You jumped to a conclusion just because I pointed out this was not a ped-centric proposal. FACT: It is a very car-centric proposal of an 845 parking space...

".......This is more ped-centric and less auto-centric than it would be if had a 2:1 parking ratio, roads between each building, no retail, and zero rapid transit access........" Way to set the bar so very high there! Look I'm completely IN FAVOR of this development. But with 845 new parking...

    1280-1330 Boylston Street, Brookline

"Pretty damn close" to a1:1 ratio is not "pedestrian centered". Let's call it what it is. This may very well be a successful project. A successful auto-centric project. No need to pretend. I dream of cities/areas that are pedestrian/bike/mass transit centric. This ain't it. And...

Then it's a game of chicken. Who will be the brave pedestrian volunteers (any takers here?) to buy units in this project and 'take one for the team' until the town antes up in the future to make that walk to the T more palatable? I'm sure there will be some, but those people will be far more...

That area of Route 9 is like the Indy 500 though. That's not an easy pedestrian stroll To the Green line station. A pedestrian bridge or tunnel below would be nice. As mapped in your post, that first half of the walk is hellacious. Once you get on Hammond Street, though, it's quite quaint...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

+1. Pretty much what I was arguing with the crewcut fans around posts #4,250-4,261. The crane proved a spire would have been fine. There were no FAA problems during construction and no flight paths were diverted. Always brings to mind John Lennon's quote in the 1971 Rolling Stone interview...

    The New Retail Thread

Agreed. The phrase "Windows, not walls!!!!" comes to mind. How tone deaf can a business be? Is it supposed to be a "Speakeasy" concept? Are customers supposed to whisper a secret password? That would be the only defense for this entrance design stupidity.

    The New Residential Conversion Thread

Boston's lament of "But the floor plates!" seems to be unheard in NYC as they are converting plenty of 1960's+ era office towers per the EXCELLENT Bloomberg.com City Lab section (one of scores of sections on Bloomberg and even by itself is worth the annual overall $149/yr subscription ): I...
