I agree it will take 1-2 men with shovels to clear the snow, leaves debris etc. However I think the problem here is drainage, when you install a bump-out here I believe the water presently flows from the location of the cones toward the photographer. (Or vice versa) If the bike lane is raised...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

State government has neglected MBTA for decades. A dumping ground for politically connected cronies to get an easy job with good pay and benefits. MBTA was commonly referred to as "Mister Bulger's Transit Authority" (Referring to both Billy and Whitey).

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Keep in mind design speed does not indicate actual operation speed. Many Interstate Highways have design speeds well above there actual posted speed. Such as design speed being 75-80 MPH but actual posted being 55 or 65. In the engineering world you need factors of safety. Have to protect...

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

Try searching for "Scheme Z", I tried but didn't have much luck except this The Harvard Crimson article from 1991. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1991/6/6/scheme-z-how-to-kill-a/ Articles say it would have been an eleven story high interchange. I seem to remember Zakim was projected to be...

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

The Zakim, although a pretty design that satisfied the people was an over cost project that will come back to haunt future generations. North Washington just following in its footsteps.

    Two lanes or one?

Here is an example of the problem that often appears near this intersection ------https://goo.gl/maps/BubT2T2oc9tZj4uN9 Construction vehicles, U-Haul vehicles, Amazon vehicles, UPS vehicles, Fed Ex vehicles, moving trucks, utility vehicles, and trees that obstruct these signs from the view of...

    Two lanes or one?

Having traversed that bizarre intersection many times over my 48 year Boston driving history , I've always chalked it up to MDC/ DCR/ Boston don't give a crap attitude, Edit--- also I believe the lack of VISIBLE over height vehicle warnings prior to this ramp leads to many trucks getting stuck...

    Traffic Signals

An excellent video on You Tube on why people run red lights and how to fix it, and it doesn't involve red light cameras. Video by "Road Guy Rob"

    MBTA Construction Projects

OK so today the T says the derailment of a "tool cart" means the shutdown needs to be extended to May 17. Do they think the public is too ignorant to know what a rail "tool cart" which commonly looks like this------ https://rrtools.com/product/tool-and-supply-cart-steel-body-1-piece/s It's...

    MBTA Construction Projects

I did some research on this you are correct but some "design-build" contracts have a point system which are utilized based on multiple factors that I won't list here. Mass DOT has numerous design build contracts like the Route 3 widening Burlington to NH, statewide electronic tolling...

    MBTA Construction Projects

Correct me if I'm wrong but the T is required by law to award contracts based on lowest qualified bidder as are most public contracts in the Commonwealth.

MassDOT Highway, Ramp Closures, Construction Restrictions

The only thing I found on Mass DOT is a "Sign-up to receive Greater Boston Traffic Advisories" page where you enter your preferences -- https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/MADOT/subscriber/new?topic_id=MADOT_81 I don't subscribe so I don't know how up to date it is kept. Their twitter...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

NH is setup to lure residents and vacationers from nearby states to buy products with no sales tax, cheap alcohol that is sold in a state owned monopoly (untaxed all profit goes to the state of NH!!), high (8.5%) room and meals taxes. The NH attitude is we hope you had fun skiing, hiking...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

In addition the towns of Dunstable, Tyngsborough Westford and Chelmsford will throw sh*fits. Very easy bypasses through these towns for a toll.

Freight and General New England RR News

STB has approved CSX acquisition of Pan Am. An improvement for shippers and passengers in New England. Sad to see the end of the B+M era. https://www.stb.gov/news-communications/latest-news/pr-22-22/

    General Infrastructure

So does this mean DCR didn't feel it necessary to inform Mass DOT or make an alert to the media ? If so maybe somebody needs some re-training. When it comes to roadways sometimes I think DCR stands for "Don't Care Really"

    General Infrastructure

In Mass DOT's defense if one reads their link it says the "northside of the highway" NOT 128 NB as Universal Hub incorrectly says.

    General Infrastructure

That's a pretty bad out of scale rendering by Mass Dot, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's 128 north of Grove St., Lexington and but that is not northbound but southbound. Last I knew there was no noise wall on the northbound side.
