    Crazy Transit Pitches

I like it. Amusingly enough, I just had a random crazy transit pitch that is vaguely related: Extend the commuter rail/intercity rail systems to as many of the other airports in the state as possible. Obviously, there’s loads of variation between which airports this is even remotely...

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

Haven’t taken the Lakeshore Limited in over a decade. Used to be ~$20 between Boston and points west to the state line (Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield). I just checked it, and its only $9 now. Did they drop the price during the pandemic or is it normally this cheap now?

    Future Transit Technologies

I am not nearly as hyperloop-skeptical as the rest of the board. I agree it has many challenges before it can be considered a viable technology, and its nowhere near where it needs to be. The knock off tech from it can be very useful, as the floor of expectations.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Emphasis on 'try' is important here. I'd be quite intrigue to dig into where all of these suppliers are sourced - just looking at Dell, I know they have plenty of manufacturing in China. Which, of course, is how modern supply chains work - products are bounced back and forth across the ocean as...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I think we'll only see more delays, it isn't like China and the US are growing any closer.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

Coming late to this, and this question has already been discussed but does alternative 6 use the Housatonic RR to reach Pittsfield? The farm I grew up on abuts the railroad for about a 1/4 mile. Would be cool to see passenger traffic going by again. I remember at least one time where my...

    Future Transit Technologies

At the risk of seriously ticking off F-Line, I had a shower thought the other day about Hyperloop. Given that the whole system is composed of isolated pods, could hygiene concerns be enough to actually make it viable enough to put into use?

What was Boston like before GPS?

Raising parents is a big responsibility, and you have to be stern with them when they don't listen to you. I'm one to talk - my father missed the bridge to Cape Cod for my wedding.

Coronavirus and its Impacts on Urbanism

Some friends and I were doing a zoom drinking hour friday and discussing the situation with office buildings (we're all WFH right now). Anecdotally, many executives are very surprised by how well their workforces are adapting to working from home. You can bet that they're going to task someone...

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

Gotta be some projects that can be done in small teams, or spread out, or in vehicles. You don’t usually see construction crews tightly packed together, after all.

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

Are they still running the zipper lane on 93? If yes, why? While ridership is down, the T damn well better take this opportunity to take all the spare time they have for catching up on maintenance, working out the kinks on the new trains, etc.

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

I’m tempted to snatch up some royal caribbean or norwegian cruise stock right now.

On the bright side, rush hour is far more reasonable right now.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

Would there ever be any use in relocating Bridgwater to the old depot (its a Burger King, which is crazy)? I'm asking on 90% aesthetic grounds.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

And where are the various branches of the supply chain? Do none of them trace back to China? I’m not suggesting its apocalyptic, but all you need is an essential 1% to be missing from the supply chain for production to encounter issues.

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

Ah, yeah, I skimmed through and it looked like you were saying 500 million deaths, not infections. My mistake.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

They also own a bunch of residential property on St Botolph across Mass Ave, if I remember correctly. They haven’t do anything with it, just sitting on the land for future potential use. Didn’t stop the tenants from protesting about a decade plus back, as though they were being evicted.

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

@whighlander Your numbers on the Spanish Flu are off by an order of magnitude; it was in the ballpark of 50 million, not 500 million. Still huge, but not 1/3 of humanity huge.

    New Cape Cod Bridges

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Presidential budgets are just suggestions. Congress, regardless of party (and the party of the President), rarely gives the President's budget much respect. Look at whatever Congress decides on.

    General Infrastructure

I’ve been saying a gondola makes sense here since we were first arguing about putting one on Summer St.
